The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary

Reporting to the Deputy Vice President (DVP) for Strategic Communications in the Office of Alumni and Development (OAD), the Associate Director, Internal Communications plays a key role in developing strategy, tools, and tactics to support internal communications in OAD for the benefit of the University alumni relations and development staff community. As a member of the Strategic Communications team, the Associate Director, Internal Communications will be instrumental in creating and overseeing OAD's first-ever internal communications program in close collaboration with the DVP and in partnership with the entire team.

The Associate Director, Internal Communications' work will include a range of communications for alumni relations and development staff, including emails and other messaging for OAD administrative teams, postings for the staff community intranet (LionsDen), and select leadership messaging and remarks, among other communications. They will develop deep knowledge of the staff community and be a thought leader in conceptualizing effective communications and equipping staff-facing teams with the tools to successfully and strategically share information.

This is a new position that will oversee the Digital Content Strategist position in Strategic Communications.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the DVP for Strategic Communications on building OAD's first-ever internal communications program that prioritizes the strategic dissemination of information for alumni relations and development staff to help build community and foster transparency.
  • Work with all OAD administrative teams to help them build more fluid and streamlined communication systems, including content and dissemination; this may entail developing communications and/or providing editing and other consultation.
  • Manage the Digital Content Strategist staff member to effectively evolve our internal content strategy across a variety of channels and needs.
  • Lead the content creation and curation for the alumni relations and development community intranet, LionsDen, in partnership with the Strategic Communications team.
  • Create various types of communications for internal dissemination - email, LionsDen postings, poster/flier messaging, remarks, etc.
  • Build relationships with alumni relations and development staff to develop a consistent "pulse" on the community and adapt communications strategy to accommodate changing needs and priorities.
  • Be a partner and thought leader on change communications related to key strategic priorities impacting the community, including the impending conversion of our database/CRM of record, as well as the transformation of our broad-base marketing to a lifecycle model.
  • Collaborate on select external-facing communications work as needed/required, including generating content for the Giving website, as well as assisting with marketing, ads, and other material related to OAD initiatives (e.g., Giving Day).
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned/requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 4-6 years of related experience in communications, with preference for candidates who have managed internal communications in a higher education environment.
  • Experience as a manager with the ability to motivate and drive performance with tangible goals; ability to lead while also fostering independence and agency; and the ability to build confidence and nurture professional growth.
  • Excellent written communications skills with a natural ability in collaboration and ideation.
  • Ability to generate clear and tonally mindful messaging within complex and nuanced environments.
  • Deep interest and curiosity in working with a variety of teams with different communications needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree desirable.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, adapt to change, and ability to work with different people, skills, and teams.
  • Interest in philanthropy, advancement, and other aspects of alumni relations and development work.
  • Fluency in the Google Suite - facility with Google Docs and Google Drive and other tools for collaboration. Experience with digital channels and strategies, including social media and various platforms.
  • Experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Experience Cloud, and other Salesforce programs is a plus.

  • Subject to business needs, the Office of Alumni and Development supports a hybrid work arrangement for this position. Options will be discussed during the interview process.
