Job Description

General Statement of Duties and Responsibilities-

This is a management class of positions. All personnel perform related work.

Under the Executive Director, Office of Neighborhood Safety, the Associate Director, Office of Neighborhood Safety will be responsible for providing strategic and programmatic leadership.

Examples of Typical Tasks-

Directs on-going work in the Office of Neighborhood Safety (ONS) portfolio related to place-based and community-centered programs, services, and networks to reduce violence and empower.

Oversees the portfolio of contracts within ONS that relate to this work.

Provides fiscal, operational, and programmatic oversight to programs and services within the ONS portfolio including Neighborhood Stat, space activation initiatives, therapeutic services, school-

based programming and more.

Manages staff members responsible for data reporting, community engagement, agency coordination, and problem solving.

Directs strategy and implementation of ONS initiatives to respond to the social determinants of community violence.

Cultivates and maintains excellent relationships with stakeholder groups, other government agencies, community non-profits, advocates, family members, survivors, and justice-impacted individuals.

Represents DYCD and ONS at meetings with community-based, governmental, and business entities, among others.

Provides administrative support as needed, including contract management, preparation of meeting materials, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  1. Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, social services, human resources, or a closely related field, and two (2) years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in program planning, criminal justice, community development, monitoring, project management, data management and research, community organizing, youth programming, policymaking, and/or organizational development, 18 months of which must have been in an executive, managerial, administrative, or supervisory capacity; or

  2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of satisfactory, full-time, professional experience in program planning, criminal justice, community development, monitoring, project management, data management and research, community organizing, youth programming, policymaking, and/or organizational development,18 months of which must have been in an executive, managerial, administrative, or supervisory capacity; or

  3. A satisfactory combination of education and experience equivalent to “ 1 ” or “ 2 ” above. However, all candidates must have 18 months of which must have been in an executive, managerial, administrative, or supervisory capacity.
