The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Since 1898, Columbia faculty and alumni have played a leading role in advancing the field of social work through scholarly and professional contributions. The Associate Director of Admissions at the Columbia School of Social Work plays a vital role in shaping the admissions process of a diverse and dedicated student body. In this role, the incumbent will participate in the creation and delivery of comprehensive communication and recruitment strategies to meet the goals of attracting and admitting dynamic students that enhance the diverse community of the School of Social Work (CSSW).

Responsibilities

  • As a key contributor to the Admissions team, participate in the development and implementation of comprehensive communication and recruitment event strategies to assist prospective domestic and international applicants throughout the admissions process.
  • Assist in the design, planning, and implementation of special events. Manage all student and alumni volunteers for prospective and admitted student events.
  • Propose, manage, and evaluate prospective student outreach strategies.
  • Travel locally and domestically on behalf of CSSW to attend graduate admission fairs, and workshops on- and off-campus information sessions.
  • Prepare the admission committee, and faculty readers for the review of applications. Coordinate the distribution of files and schedule of application reviews. Coordinate the training sessions for the review process and payment for readers.
  • Oversee the administration and upkeep of student records in the Admissions CRM software, Technolutions Slate, guaranteeing efficient processing of all application-related documents.
  • Provide prompt responses to inquiries about application status, ensure the timely delivery of admission decision letters and eBrochures, and manage email communications for potential, current, and admitted students.
  • Compile and deliver weekly reports on prospective students, admissions, enrollments, and events to offer a comprehensive statistical overview of ongoing progress.
  • Offer guidance to prospective international graduate students on admission procedures and visa-related queries. Collaborate with the Admissions team, faculty, and other School administrators to address outreach and recruitment issues and opportunities.
  • Support the Director of Admissions in overseeing and coordinating the daily activities of the Admissions department, including managing, supervising, and directing a diverse team comprising graduate interns, summer interns, Work Study students, Student Ambassadors, and temporary staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and/or its equivalent required. Minimum 3-5 years related experience required.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be highly energetic, goal-oriented, results driven, creative and team-oriented.
  • Ability to work independently and well under pressure.
  • Must have fluency of information technologies and be able to learn and incorporate new technologies rapidly.
  • Must be available for some travel and weekend work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in higher education and/or human services.
  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Social Work or Education.
  • Experience with CRM platforms; student databases; SLATE online application system and Columbia's SIS.
