The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary

Location: Steam Shop/Powerhouse

Schedule: Floating shift - Must be available for various shifts (6-2, 2-10, 10-6, or 6-230), including weekends.

The Assistant Watch Engineer assists the Watch Engineer in the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of high-pressure boilers and auxiliary equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Chemical testing and treatment of boiler water and campus loop water.

  • Changing oil tanks, oil soundings, and cleaning strainers.

  • Switching oil burners.

  • Monitoring of distributed control system as well as monitoring/control of emissions to comply with EPA standards.

  • Monitoring the Data Acquisition System (D.A.S.) that monitors campus buildings, room temperatures, machinery, cooling towers, absorbers, and all auxiliary equipment that requires action prompted by alarms.

  • Operating, starting, and stopping chillers, chilled water pumps, condenser water pumps, and cooling towers according to demand and conditions.

  • Racking in and out of large breakers and racking in grounds on the 13.8 kv feeders.

  • Operating and monitoring the air compressor that feeds the campus air loop and power plant. If conditions warrant, switch to alternate units and switch valves to keep the system in normal condition.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma and Trade School Diploma or the equivalent required.
  • Two (2) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of high-pressure boilers and chillers.
  • Must have NYC Refrigeration Engineer License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • College degree or military experience preferred. NYC High-Pressure Operating Engineer License preferred.
