LOCATION/HOURS

This is a full-time, hybrid position based out of our New York City office. It is expected that some duties will be performed on-site at least 2-days a week, and some remotely, with the understanding that government and public health guidelines will help determine the extent to which it is safe to carry out in-person and onsite activities.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Assistant Director, Credit Academy is a dynamic role that supports various aspects of the SEO’s Alternative Investment programming, primarily focusing on strengthening the coaching and mentoring model around working with early career professionals interested in the credit investments space.

This role primarily involves developing the SEO Credit Academy program engaging directly with individuals interested in entering the credit investments industry, offering a significant opportunity to create programming that increases diversity within the sector. The role also provides unparalleled exposure and access to our partner firms such as KKR, TPG, Carlyle, Oaktree, etc.

The Assistant Director role is a unique opportunity for financial services professionals to gain nonprofit experience, expand their network within the private equity space, and achieve balance in their professional and personal lives. The ideal candidate will be a passionate subject matter expert with proficiencies in project and/or program management. We seek a team player willing and able to actively engage in doing that work to create opportunities for early-career professionals in the Credit space.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a trusted and strategic partner to the Alternative Investments program leadership and team.

  • Provide industry knowledge and experience as the team strengthens its programming to provide early career professionals opportunities in the credit investment space.

  • Support the Credit Academy admissions process including program marketing, application review, and facilitating interviews.

  • Mentor and coach young professionals as they prepare to enter the credit investment industry and the fellows in the Credit Academy to foster their professional growth and connection to SEO.

  • Support the Credit Academy program Director in conducting pitch and partnership meetings with alternative investment firms.

  • Participate in regular training, networking opportunities, breakfast meetings, and other events to further develop the fellows within the Credit Academy.

  • Leverage both quantitative and qualitative data to inform decision-making and develop strategies for continuous improvement of Credit Academy programming.

  • Manage program expenses, budget reconciliation, and other ongoing administrative processes.

  • Support activities leading up to, and on the day of SEO Alternative Investment Conference

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or a related field required.

  • 3-5 years of work experience within a corporate environment. At least two (2) years of experience in Investment Banking with direct experience in corporate credit investing required.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in navigating the credit buyside with a deep understanding of industry dynamics and market trends.

  • Formal coaching, teaching, mentorship, and/or DIEB experience (e.g., diversity recruitment, learning & development, counseling).

  • A background in project and/or program management; experience in nonprofit or educational program management is strongly preferred.

  • Expert presentation and extemporaneous communication skills. Must be comfortable addressing and engaging with diverse communities at various levels and mediums, including in-person, email, messaging platforms, and phone calls.

  • Deep curiosity and passion for closing the opportunity gap.

  • Project Management: An affinity for strategic planning with the ability to break down issues into component pieces, build project work plans, assume accountability for timelines, lead cross-functional working teams, evaluate data for continuous improvement, and navigate ambiguity along the way.
