Job Description

CANDIDATE MUST BE SERVING PERMANENTLY IN THE TITLE OF SUPERVISOR HIGHWAY REPAIRER OR AREA SUPERVISOR LEVEL 1, OR ELIGIBLE UNDER THE 55A PROGRAM TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION.

Under general supervision, with some latitude for independent judgment and initiative, oversees the maintenance and repair of a designated area, dealing with roadways, highways, bridges, tunnels and related structures; or assume responsibility for an important segment of a borough, or citywide program of such maintenance and repair. Supervise Supervisor Highway Repairers and yard personnel. Oversee snow removal activities as needed, investigate roadway defects and high-profile repairs, patrol roadways and arterials for storm damage/flood condition, and take steps to make safe, and resolve warranted conditions. Responsible for updating manual and electronic records. When necessary, provide training, make recommendations for transfers and reassignments: review and approve timesheets and leave requests, conduct and attend meetings, review and prepare productivity reports.

Qualifications

Four years of full-time satisfactory experience as a working member of a roadway or bridge/tunnel maintenance and repair crew using asphalt and concrete mixes; and/or performing such tasks as debris/bulk removal; mechanical sweeping, drain/scupper cleaning on bridges/tunnels or related structures, at least two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.

In addition to meeting the minimum Qualification Requirements above: To be assigned to Assignment Level II, the candidate must have at least one year of experience working in Assignment Level I or an additional year of experience as described above under "Qualification Requirements", at least three years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.

Possession of a Class B Commercial Driver License valid in the State of New York with no restrictions on the use of air brakes. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
