Rockefeller University Application Specialist | Miller Brain Observatory in New York, New York

Organization Overview

The core mission of the Miller Brain Observatory is to enable a new range of neurobiological discoveries by facilitating the transition of advanced, commercially unavailable optical neurotechnologies from proof-of-principle to user-defined, neurobiological problems within one center on campus. This will be achieved by offering a portfolio of advanced brain imaging tools and generating and maintaining a critical mass of long-term optical and computational expertise that would ensure continued innovation, user applications, and management of knowledge.

Overview

The Application Specialist position presents an ideal opportunity to utilize cutting-edge, custom instrumentation for biological discoveries in collaboration with labs and scientists at Rockefeller University. In this role, the candidate will have an opportunity to broaden one’s exposure to custom neurotechnologies, identity relevant applications, and apply optical neurotechnologies and associated data-processing routines.

Responsibilities

This position aims at providing instrumentation and analysis support to the MBO users and collaborators, while expanding the candidate's experience in a wide range of applications enabled by optical neurotechnologies.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Act as a liaison between the user labs and the MBO;

  • Conduct research experiments by utilizing custom optical neurotechnologies;

  • Periodically maintain equipment and pipeline offered at the MBO; assist in fine-tuning and tailoring equipment for project-specific needs;

  • Utilize data acquisition and processing pipelines to process neuroimaging data;

  • Methodically document experiments and observations to generate a database of user needs and projects supported by the MBO;

  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s or advanced degree in in Biological Sciences, Physical Sciences, Engineering or a related discipline with a strong emphasis on neuroimaging and custom microscopy is required

  • Prior experience with neuroimaging, multi-photon microscopy

  • Proficient in utilizing data acquisition software and data processing pipelines

  • Familiarity with programming (Python, MATLAB), statistical analysis, and visualization

  • Must excel in a collaborative environment and able to prioritize multiple projects

  • Driven to continually expand knowledge and follow technological advancements

  • Must be able to troubleshoot and provide technical support to scientists and researchers

  • Excellent verbal and written communication: ability to convey technical and scientific ideas to experts and non-experts alike is needed

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D. highly desired

  • Prior experience with Ca++ imaging, animal-handling (rodent, flies, fish, etc.), behavior-analysis, custom multi-photon setups preferred

  • Familiarity with optics, microscopy, custom instrumentation, CAD modeling, electronics, robotics, AI/ML is a plus

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on various factors, including but not limited to organizational budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The hiring range provided represents The Rockefeller University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
