Job Description

The Bureau of Asset Management is responsible for oversight of the investment portfolios of the five New York City pension systems. Through a culture of collaboration, individual development, and teamwork that leverages diverse talent and strives for continuous improvement, the goal of the Bureau of Asset Management is to achieve exceptional investment outcomes for all stakeholders; to deliver outstanding support to plan Trustees; and to serve as a responsible steward of the resources of plan beneficiaries and the City of New York.

The Alternative Assets Fund Accounting Analyst will be part of Investment Operations Support (IOS) Alternative Asset Oversight group. The primary function of the Alternative Asset Oversight group is to ensure that capital activity, capital calls and distributions are recorded accurately and the official records align with the manager and third party consultant records. This position will report to the Group Head of Alternative Asset Oversight group.

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Performing investment oversight for Alternative Investments including review of Capital Call and Distribution notices to ensure accurate accounting and consistent reporting.

  • Performing quarterly reconciliation of market values for Alternative Investments as reported by the Alternative Asset Administrator to the General Partners’ Statements.

  • Participating in discussions with Investment Staff, Investment Managers, Consultants and others to ensure that investments are correctly recorded and reported.

  • Assisting in quarterly fee reporting including the tracking of ILPA fee templates and other fee documents as well as the analysis and reporting of fee data.

  • Conducting research to support data analysis or resolve discrepancies.

  • Assisting with the combining of Administrator, General Partner and Consultant data with desktop support applications to build tools to monitor investments and reconciliations.

  • Using desktop programs and analytic tools to provide operational oversight

  • Performing calculations and compilations of financial data, assessing data quality and performing reconciliations.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS: All applicants must be current employees of the Office of the Comptroller and meet the minimum qualifications criteria below.

Qualifications

  1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in accounting, business administration, economics, finance, law, mathematics, and/or statistics and one year of satisfactory full-time experience in investment activities of a governmental agency, financial institution, or brokerage firm; or

  2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and two years of satisfactory full-time experience in investment activities of a governmental agency, financial institution or brokerage firm.

Special Note:

To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II individuals must have, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, at least one additional year of full-time experience in investment activities of a governmental agency, financial institution or brokerage firm.

Special Note:

To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III individuals must have, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, at least two additional years of full-time

experience in investment activities of a governmental agency, financial institution or brokerage firm.
