PAY RATE: $19.94 Hourly

Our transit services bring hard-working commuters to their jobs, students to their schools, and fun seekers to entertainment, shopping areas, and restaurants. We provide mobility to residents of the city as well as tourists, taking them to and from their hotels to historical neighborhoods and countless attractions. RTA's system includes 5 streetcar lines, 30 bus routes, 2 ferry routes, and paratransit services. Our passengers take more than 19 million rides every year.

REPORTS TO Supervisor of Paratransit Reservations

JOB SUMMARY Schedule transportation services as requested by Paratransit Customers.

Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.   • Schedules telephone appointments for customers
  • Must use the computerized scheduling/dispatching system to schedule passenger rides.
  • Edits daily passenger and operating data in the computerized scheduling/dispatching system.
  • Maintains a listing of clients' standing appointments and updates client files.
  • Communicates with customers courteously and professionally by providing excellent customer service
  • Relays passenger information to dispatcher(s).
  • Contributes to ensuring that the Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and programs of RTA are carried out

OTHER FUNCTIONS

  • Assist dispatcher when appropriate.
  • Assists with special projects as needed.
  • Attend training sessions and other meetings as required.
  • Performs other job-related duties in keeping with the goals and objectives of RTA.
Qualifications

EDUCATION High school graduate or GED

EXPERIENCE A minimum of three (3) years of recent experience directly related to passenger scheduling and customer service, or equivalent.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS/DEMANDS A valid Louisiana Driver's License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

Must submit to a criminal background check, the results of which must meet hiring criteria for the role.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to handle numerous telephone calls in pressurized situations.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift to 15 pounds at times.

  • Ability to patiently talk with passengers over the telephone yet move on the next caller as quickly as possible.
  • Ability to make suggestions regarding passenger's trip.
  • Basic knowl dge of the City of New Orleans.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate with co-workers in an understandable manner.
  • Ability to compute basic arithmetic and tell time accurately.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
