Summary

At First Horizon, we are looking for a seasoned professional to create narratives that help tell our differentiated story. This person will be responsible for developing and executing public relations and media strategies that align with and drive company objectives. Reporting to the Chief Communications Officer, the ideal candidate will be an experienced professional with established relationships with media professionals in the financial services industry.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Develop and execute a public relations strategy and plan to foster an accurate, consistent and positive corporate image and serve immediate and long-term business goals

  • Develop and execute a media relations strategy and lead media relations, overseeing outbound and inbound media efforts

  • Build and leverage connections with key media organizations and journalists through a mix of traditional, digital, and social channels

  • Use the power of storytelling to create narratives that reinforce brand and strengthen connections and trust between the company and its stakeholders

  • Manage how the firm prepares and responds to public relations matters that pose a reputational risk, including incidents and crises

  • Track industry news, areas of trending public interest and environmental factors

  • Understand the competitor landscape and threats to our brand position

Experience, Skills and Competencies:

  • Develop and execute public relations and media strategies and plans

  • Collaborate with internal partners to develop and utilize a consistent, compelling corporate narrative and coordinate on public relations initiatives companywide

  • Pursue media opportunities to capitalize on:

  • performance results, notable achievements, significant new hires/promotions, awards and accolades

  • talent, expertise, products and offerings

  • support and engagement of nonprofit and civic partnerships, sponsorships, events, leadership and service efforts

  • Responsible for outbound and inbound media efforts, including press releases and interviews

  • Develop content for executives and key leaders for interviews, speeches, meetings and events

  • Track and report company and industry news and competitor activity

  • Monitor, analyze and report public relations and media results

  • Work closely with social media team on content

  • Establish and manage strategies to mitigate reputational risk in crisis situations

Preferred skills and qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in public relations, journalism, communications or related field

  • 10+ years of experience in public relations, preferably in the financial services industry

  • Demonstrated accomplishments that reflect strategic thinking and alignment of strategic plans, tactics and metrics with business objectives

  • Established relationships with media organizations and journalists

  • Knowledge of traditional, digital, and social media channels

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills

  • Highly effective communicator

  • Proven attention to detail and quality of work

  • Strong organizational skills, including time management, goal setting, multitasking and prioritization

  • Collaborative team player

  • Discretion and sensitivity in handling confidential and complex issues
