New London Public Schools Paraprofessional in New London, Connecticut

TITLE: Paraprofessional

REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Student and Family Services, Principal or Designee

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10-month position. Other terms as set by Board of Education.

PRIMARY FUNCTION: To assist teachers in carrying out of routine classroom tasks.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This description of the position of Paraprofessional is for identification and administrative purposes only. It is not intended to be a complete statement of all duties, which may be assigned or adjusted by the Superintendent of Schools according to varying needs. 1. Under supervision of licensed teacher, set up, distribute, and collect instructional materials. 2. Perform various duties related to classroom management and instruction of pupils. 3. Assist teacher with non-instructional classroom duties. 4. Participate in in-service training programs. 5. Perform such other related classroom tasks as the teacher may assign. 6. Follow the rules, guidelines, and regulations of assigned program. 7. Perform such other duties as assigned by the principal or designee.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates degree, 60 college credits, passed the ParaPro Exam or equivalent
  • Such additions to the above as the Board finds appropriate and acceptable

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual: English and Spanish

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION: Annually by Executive Director of Student and Family Services or Designee
