WESTMORELAND COMMUNITY ACTION Teacher Assistant | New Kensington in New Kensington, Pennsylvania

Our Head Start program is looking for a teacher assistant to join our team at our New Kensington center. Using your knowledge of child development, you will assist the teacher in providing a safe and nurturing learning environment. You will provide this support by:

  • Supervising children in all program related activities,
  • Assisting the children with self-help skills and/or toileting,
  • Organizing and sustaining the positive functioning of children in a group, and
  • Building the positive self-concept and individual strengths in each child.

We (Westmoreland Community Action) are a non-profit organization that works to connect individuals and families to opportunities and resources throughout the community to improve their quality of life and help to reduce poverty in the community. This is accomplished through housing, counseling, support, education, intervention, collaborations, partnerships, information, referrals, and networking.

Head Start is a free program that serves children, ages 3-5, and their families in both learning centers and the home. Head Start provides pre-Kindergarten learning experiences for young children to help prepare them for a smooth transition into Kindergarten. The overall goal is to promote school readiness.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalency required.
  • Previous experience with children and families preferred.
  • Familiarity with the Head Start program preferred.
  • Must be able to provide or successfully obtain child abuse, state police, fingerprint-based criminal background, and sex offender registry clearances.
  • Initial health examination and TB test required.

Teacher Assistant salary based on experience: $32,968.00 - $36,920.00 annually. This position paid hourly.
