HARBOR STEEL, INC. Fitter in New Castle, Pennsylvania

Position: Fitter Status: Full Time

Job Summary: The fitter will need to have manual dexterity and ability to use hand and power tools as needed. Various welding equipment will be used, such as MIG, TIG, stick, air arc machine and cutting torches. Must be able to read engineering sketches and drawings and also understand welding symbols. Description of Duties and Job Responsibilities

  •  Layout, position, and secure parts and assemblies according to specifications
  •  Determine required equipment, welding method and welding techniques
  •  Develop templates and other work aids to hold and align parts
  •  Ignite torch and adjust valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc
  •  Tack-weld or weld components and assemblies
  •  Weld components in flat, vertical or overhead positions
  •  Remove rough spots from pieces using portable grinder
  •  Inspect grooves, angles or gap allowances using micrometer, caliper and precision measuring instruments
  •  Follow blueprints to arrange pieces and temporarily fix them into position before welding
  •  Make recommendations for process improvements
  •  Perform equipment inspections prior to use, and report any malfunctions or safety concern
  •  Work accordingly to meet Safety and Quality goals
  •  Work with team and balance workload to meet On Time Delivery goals
  •  Manage company resources to ensure budgetary integrity and client satisfaction
  •  Deburr and grind metal as necessary to achieve proper surface texture
  •  Work on additional equipment or tasks outside the job description as directed
  •  Perform all necessary quality checks during production and follow procedures when defective parts are discovered
  •  Must be able to work independently
  •  Maintain all documentation including time sheets and record all hours worked accurately
  •  Receive, check in and unload materials
  •  Required to follow all company policies
  •  Keep work area clean and organized

Preferred Qualifications

  •  Experience with overhead cranes, basic hand tools, tape measure, calipers and grinders
  •  Knowledge of welding techniques, tools and equipment
  •  Highly skilled in the use of MIG, FCAW & TIG welding processes on variety of Stainless Steel, Carbon Steel, and aluminum components and is able to pass certification tests   to ASME and   AWS codes
  •  Knowledge regarding proper fillers for weld jobs
  •  Must be detail oriented, self-motivated and disciplined with the ability to multi-task
  •  Able to read and interpret blue prints
  •  Demonstrate mechanical aptitude
  •  Must be able to drive a forklift and safety handle materials
  •  Strong analytical, conceptual and planning skills
  •  Excellent math skills

Physical Demands

  • Regularly lift or move up to 50 lbs. and occasionally lift or move up to 75 lbs., using proper
  • lifting techniques
  • Stand, walk, stoop, bend, reach, grasp, push and pull material of various sizes and weights for
  • long periods of time
