The Controls Technician carries out electrical systems implementation independently or in conjunction with other engineers, providing support in design, implementation and troubleshooting of electrical systems. Assists the plant engineers in providing services to production and "hands on" maintenance with minimum supervision. Must take on and successfully complete, process or technical development problems/assignments with little or no supervision. Must also be able to install, modify, troubleshoot, change, startup and document the various electrical systems, PLC's, VFD's, sensors and equipment used by the company. Furthermore, the Controls Technician will establish procedures and techniques for new operations (equipment, instrument, process, etc.). Major criteria for successful performance are initiative, innovativeness, practicality, adaptability, dependability/willingness, neatness and safety consciousness.

This position will report to the Engineering Manager and will take assignments and direction from the maintenance and engineering groups. Day to day work with engineers, maintenance technicians and production operators is expected.

Qualifications/Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field with 2 years of relevant experience in hands-on electrical controls installation and troubleshooting, or Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology with 3 years of relevant experience in hands-on electrical controls installation and troubleshooting or Vocational training with 5+ years of relevant experience in hands-on electrical controls installation and troubleshooting

Experience with installation, operation, troubleshooting and programming as it relates to:

  • Allen Bradley variable frequency drives from 1 hp to 500 hp -Power Flex 4, 525, 700, 750 series.

  • Allen Bradley PLC 5, 500, 5000 series PLCs & PanelView HMIs

  • 4-20ma and 0-10vdc loops (pressure, level, temperature, position etc.)

  • 24vdc and 120vac controls and wiring diagrams

  • 480V MCC wiring and control

  • Able to read, modify, and mark-up electrical drawings.

  • Strong communication and organization skills

  • Strong computer skills

  • Familiarity with National Electric Code and NFPA.

  • Good customer service orientation

    Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, install and troubleshoot various facility electrical systems, control panels, MCCs, VFDs, PLCs etc.

  • Work with contractors to coordinate project completion

  • Assist engineers in project planning and execution

  • Document electrical markups using AutoCAD Electrical.

  • Respond to plant needs in order to keep the production process running smoothly

  • Ability to share scheduled on-call duty to support 24/7 operation.

  • Use the Adaptive Coaching process for communication, goal alignment, problem solving, and career planning.

  • Perform all other duties assigned

    Summary:

Provides electrical system support to include installation and troubleshooting of 120vac and 480vac systems, control panels, MCCs and other plant systems. Able to read, interpret, and sketch electrical schematics. Provide services and assistance to maintenance, engineering personnel, etc. Must be able to install, modify, troubleshoot, start-up and assist in documentation of various electrical systems, including PLCs, VFDs, and a variety of analog sensors.
