Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist IV (Part-Time) within the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey. The purpose of the Research Teaching Specialist IV position is to support research that focuses on understanding and promoting health-related behaviors among individuals with cancer and those at risk for cancer, under the direction of the Program Manager of the Shared Resource and the Qualitative Research Scientific Director.
Among the key duties for this position are the following:
  • As directed, creates a user-friendly system for study tracking and data entry using already-developed systems.
  • Participates in phone, electronic, and in-person communications and meetings with study staff.
  • As directed, recruits and contacts study participants by telephone, online, or in-person.
  • As directed, collects research data off-site or online, including but not limited to surveys, interviews, field observations, focus groups, and online forums.
  • As directed, provides support in data processing, storage, organizing, and preparing data for qualitative analyses.
  • Reviews, codes, and analyzes data with research team.
  • Supports the preparation and dissemination of research findings through scientific posters, presentations, manuscripts, and community events.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Master's degree in Public Health, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, or another health, social or behavioral science or Bachelor's Degree in a relevant science plus one year of related research experience required.
  • Additional experience may be substituted for the degree on a year for year basis.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated organizational, communication (oral and written), and problem-solving skills required.
  • Strong personal initiative, attention to detail, flexibility, and ability to work independently and manage multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills, and oral and written communication skills, including the ability to motivate and recruit study participants.
  • Proficiency with qualitative research software such as Atlas.ti required. Ability to work flexible hours (including evenings and weekends) as needed.
  • Must be computer literate with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and EndNote. Bilingual (Spanish and English) skills an asset.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One (1) year of qualitative research experience, including data collection and analysis is preferred.
  • Experience in managing research projects and working with survey and data management software such as RedCap is strongly preferred.
