Academy Sports + Outdoors Store Team Lead in New Bern, North Carolina

At Academy Sports + Outdoors, our Purpose is to make it easier for everyone to enjoy more sports and outdoors. The merchandising team is responsible for supporting the logistics processes in an Academy store by ensuring our merchandise is available on the floor, displayed in an appealing way to drive sales in all categories. The Merchandise Team Lead drives the execution of projects and initiatives of this team. Through this important work, the Merchandise Team Lead impacts customer satisfaction, store profitability, and Academys Purpose.

Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred

Work Experiences:

  • At least two (2) years of relevant work experience required
  • In-direct support of people and processes to drive operational excellence and expected sales targets.

Skills:

  • Excellent customer service orientation; an effective problem solver and communicator with customers and team members
  • Read, interpret and follow documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, plan-o-grams and procedure manuals
  • Prepare routine reports and correspondence
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form
  • Working knowledge of inventory software, order processing systems, Microsoft Office products such as Word and Excel

Other Requirements:

  • Must meet federal and state requirements for selling and processing firearms transactions.
  • Must meet requirements to qualify to obtain/maintain FOID card (Illinois only).

Responsibilities:

  • Acts as lead and provides guidance to merchandising team members that drive exceptional customer service and execution of operational tasks.
  • Assists manager with daily planning of operational tasks assigned to the store.
  • Oversees special or ongoing process improvement projects and initiatives.
  • Executes plan to ensure team members are compliant with established policies and procedures, and applicable laws.
  • Assists with departmental zoning by providing support, guidance and overseeing the recovery process.
  • Actively participates in floor walks with Store Manager, Store Director, District Manager and Regional Vice President.
  • Process firearm sales in compliance with federal and state law, including properly completing ATF Form 4473 and conducting background checks.
  • Required to complete Firearms Sales Certification Training.
  • Required to learn and follow company policies, procedures and safety rules.
  • Adhere to company work hours, policies, procedures and rules governing professional staff behavior.
  • Duties may change and team members may be required to perform other duties or roles as assigned.

Physical Requirements and Attendance

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Constantly stand, walk, reach, handle, use repetitive motions (hand/wrist/fingers), feel and lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Frequently stoop, crouch, use fingers, grasp, push, pull, talk, hear and lift up to 21 to 40 pounds.
  • Occasionally required to sit, climb, balance and lift 41 to 60 pounds.
