Craven County Schools Office Support (Facility Support Services) in New Bern, North Carolina

Position:Office Support Reports to: Director and Office Supervisor Terms of Employment: 12 months Pay Grade: 59

Pay Range: $2,204.95 - $3,708.01 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Nature of Job

An employee in this position assists in all office practices. Examples of such work are customer service, answering phones, simple bookkeeping, scheduling work orders, entering data on the computer, filing, copying, scanning etc.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Communication, interpersonal, organizational, basic spreadsheet, word processing, microcomputer, customer service, secretarial, math, and basic accounting skills. Operating knowledge and experience with general office equipment, and computer software including Microsoft Excel and Word, One Note and Google Drive. Operating knowledge in data base and work order systems.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalence.

Experience in clerical work; minimum of 3 years of work experience, experience in Craven County Schools preferred.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Compiles data from established sources.
  • Records information requiring some computation.
  • Codes transactions to the correct one of several possible funding resources.
  • Maintains ledger sheets and current balance of several accounts.
  • Prepares monthly statement of accounts.
  • Sets and maintains files.
  • Operates moderate variety of standard office equipment.
  • Answers incoming phone lines and establishes needs of caller.
  • Gives out a variety of established information from program area.
  • Composes materials giving readily available data and/or established information. Considerable knowledge of elementary arithmetic.
  • Working knowledge and ability to use correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Working knowledge of office practices.
  • Working knowledge of basic bookkeeping.

Considerable knowledge of computer operations. Ability to use a basic spreadsheet software program. Assist in scheduling work orders and projects.

Physical Requirements

Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking. Position will require the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing and the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
