[General Definition of Work:]{lang="EN"}

  • Performs responsible semi-skilled and technical work in conducting aquatic safety, lifesaving and first aid techniques; does related work as required
  • Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Facility Manager
  • Supervision is exercised over Lifeguards

[Essential Functions/Typical Tasks: *[Supervising, coordinating, observing, maintaining, enforcing and supervising Aquatic Center swimming, activities and program rules.   • Supervises lifeguards and facility attendants
  • Monitors activities in aquatic center
  • Performs lifesaving rescues, renders first aid and CPR/lifesaving techniques as necessary, calls 911 and coordinates with Emergency Medical Services
  • Oversees the maintenance and cleanliness of pool and surrounding areas
  • Monitors pool chemical levels and reports problems
  • Assists with the scheduling of lifeguards to ensure that adequate coverage of pool areas are maintained during operating hours
  • Enforces rules and regulations, policies and procedures
  • Registers participants
  • Supervises conduct of participants
  • Performs related tasks as required

[Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:]{lang="EN"}

  • Thorough knowledge of first aid and CPR and lifesaving techniques
  • Thorough knowledge of the proper usage of emergency water safety equipment
  • Basic knowledge of pool chemicals and water testing procedures
  • Ability to enforce rules in effective, tactful and courteous manner
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, program participants and the general public

Requirements EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Possession of American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification (or equivalent) and First Aid/CPR/AED
  • A Lifeguard Certification/Recertification class will be offered in-house. Date of the class is TBD.
  • Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina
