Kennedy-Donovan Center Direct Care Worker - PRN/Relief in New Bedford, Massachusetts

About this role:

Under the leadership of the Program Supervisor. Direct Care Workers (DCW) are responsible for the supervision of the children utilizing the emergency shelter who are under the care of Department of Children and Families (DCF). The DCW are responsible for planning and implementing the identified services needed to assist the children at the emergency shelter. The DCW will ensure the shelter is cleaned, children are supervised, and food is prepared for the children.

  • Salary: $20 an hour

  • Relief/ Per Diem Available

  • Shifts: 5 pm - 1 am, 1 am - 9 am and 24/7 on weekends

    In this role, you’ll get to:

  • Welcome participants and develop a safe and helping relationship with children participating in the Emergency Shelter program. 

  • Assist and facilitate activities of daily living (ADLs) such as household maintenance, personal-care and hygiene, food preparation, leisure activities and socialization skill development.

  • Act as a role model and provide a safe and nurturing environment for children and adolescents while helping them to gain sustainable skills that aid in their success in home, school, and the community.

  • Ensure safety and security of the program while on shift.

  • Maintain individuals’ confidentiality and records while preserving individuals’ human rights.

  • An official job description will be presented during your scheduled interview.

    We are looking for people who have:

  • A High School Diploma or GED, required. 

  • Experience working with children, required. 

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to document clearly and efficiently.

  • Ability to successfully complete trainings such as CPR, First Aid, and QBS SafetyCare Training provided by KDC.

  • Ability to work with diverse populations.

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word.

    The physical requirements for this role are:

  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.

  • Ability to successfully complete QBS SafetyCare Training provided by KDC.

  • Ability to assist individuals with developmental disabilities and/or limited mobility (such as lifting, transporting) if needed.
