Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. Shift Manager Operations in Negaunee, Michigan

Cleveland-Cliffs, LS&I Railroad located in Negaunee, MI has an immediate opening for a Shift Manager Operations, responsible for providing operations supervision and developing and meeting operations goals and objectives to achieve a safe and reliable transportation system. This position requires availability and flexibility to work all shifts.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate all train movements on the LS&I Railroad, including mine, yards and ore dock operations.

  • Supervise, coach and mentor transportation employees, which includes training, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, resolving problems, issuing discipline and overseeing work performed.

  • Interact and direct if necessary other departments involved with operations.

  • Plan, schedule and coordinate train crews on a daily basis to meet operation needs.

  • Ensures compliance and application of Company policies, i.e., applicable safety rules, collective agreements, FRA operation standards and governmental regulations.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • HS Diploma or equivalent

  • Previous supervisor experience

  • Knowledge of FRA standards and operational regulations, including general railroad safety rules, knowledge of the General Code of Operating Rules (GCOR)

  • Proficient computer skills: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Problem-solving, analytical, critical-thinking and decision-making skills.

  • Collaborative; builds and works with teams.

  • Ability to coach and mentor

  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • B.S. Degree: Technical or business administration

  • Experience as a supervisor in railroad operations

  • Knowledge of air test requirements, train handling techniques and safe and efficient movement of all trains within the territory
