Position Summary/Description:
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
The Applications Developer assists with the development, support, and maintenance of mission critical enterprise applications throughout the organization; provide support to application development team members on projects and various other tasks related to the updating and maintaining of customized system applications; develop custom system applications and instructional tools; provide tiered support for all applications developed within the Applications Team.
Education and Experience:
CMS experience with multiple CMS platforms such as WordPress, Drupal, SharePoint, or Joomla.
Able to learn new languages and platforms quickly
Strong ability to hand-code rich and complex programing in a solo or in a team setting
An attention to detail and ability to problem solve quickly and on the fly
Able to work in a team environment and ability to independently apply judgment to technical work assignments to manage time and implementation within estimates.
Working knowledge of rapid development practices
Outstanding interpersonal and presentation skills
Higher Education / University experience
Experience with as many of the following:
Responsive frameworks such as Bootstrap
jQuery library
AngularJS
NodeJS task runners Gulp or Grunt
Stylesheet languages such as SASS or LESS
Dependency management such Bower, npm, Composer
Version control such as Git
Creating and consuming RESTful Web Services
Essential Skills:
Knowledge and experience with Python, PHP , MySQL, JavaScript, HTML , and CSS .
Experience working with API’s.
Proven track record of architecting, building, and launching websites.
Proven track record in application development consulting.
Ability to understand and dissect complex problems quickly. The ability to do rapid application development – early and continuous delivery of development and design. Knowledge of foundational development and design. Ability to write in multiple programming languages of complex routines with integration into learning, financial, content management systems, and other data sources. Applies standard and nonstandard technology applications and, adapts to changing technologies and priorities. Independently applies judgment to technical work assignments to manage time and implementation within estimates.
Ability to consult with clients, design team, and higher-level technicians to analyze business needs, and to develop and implement the technical requirements. Communicate status updates to stakeholders, develop and deliver instructional materials, and provide specific support and best practices information. They will be expected to be able to work well with outside vendors when required from initial briefing to final closing of a project.
Ability to manage projects of moderate to beginning advanced complexity. Develops project plans, manages milestones and drives projects forward. Accountable for keeping project on track. Anticipates project problems and leads collaboration to avoid or manage risk.
