This position actually sits on Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Responsibilities

  • Must be able to lead a team of junior HVAC mechanics and perform the maintenance, repair and replacement of heating, refrigeration, and air conditioning equipment.

  • Uses a Computer Maintenance Management System (Maximo) to correctly capture data related to maintenance work orders, preventative maintenance inspections, and emergency/urgent and routine customer requests.

  • Uses a Tablet to track work orders, request material, add labor and material used against a work order.

  • Maintains, repairs, calibrates, and balances chilled/hot water, steam and condensate, and air handling systems as well as related equipment and distribution systems.

  • Provides leadership, teamwork, building skills and supervision for HVAC Mechanics.

  • Performs installations, services, and repairs environmental-control systems where required by contract utilizing knowledge of heating / refrigeration theory, pipefitting, and structural layout.

  • Installs compressors and condenser units on platform or floor using hand tools following blueprints or engineering specifications.

  • Installs evaporator units in chassis or in an air duct system using hand tools.

  • Cuts and bends tubing to correct length and shape using cutting and bending equipment and tools.

  • Joins tubing or pipes to various heating and refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings or unions and solder joints to form complete circuits for heating and refrigerant mediums.

  • Installs expansion and discharge valves.

  • Connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls and circulating ventilation fans to control panels, and connects control panels to power source.

  • Injects small amount of refrigerant into compressors to test system and add freon gas to ensure prescribed operating pressure.

  • Observes pressure and vacuum gauges and adjust controls to ensure proper operation.

  • Replaces defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring to repair installed units using Electrician's hand tools and test equipment.

  • Load and unload service trucks keep the truck in good working condition.

  • Troubleshoots electrical system by using a variety of meters.

  • Troubleshoots and repairs ice machines.

  • Reads and follows wiring diagrams to make repairs on equipment.

  • Identifies different types of coolant gases.

  • Trains junior HVAC technicians on various HVAC/R related skills.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School/GED/Associates preferred, 5+ years, Performs advanced tasks.

  • Must be North American Technician Excellence (NATE II) certified.

  • Must possess a valid EPA 608 Universal certification.

    Skills

  • General knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in the HVAC trade. Will use various metalworking, welding, cutting and machinist tools, and various portable hand and power tools used when working with HVAC systems.

  • Must have excellent communication skills in English, both written and oral.

  • Able to read and interpret Work Orders, parts requests, drawings/schematics/blueprints, and manuals to accomplish assigned duties.

  • Requires a collaborative work style, fostering cooperation, and teamwork.

    Other Requirements

  • Must comply with OSHA, EPA, regulations and company work rules. Must be available to work nights, weekends and holidays when required.
