Description Robert Half is seeking an experienced Staff Accountant with terrific organizational skills to take up a long-term contract / contract / temporary position at a growing company. The Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing journal entries, monthly and year-end closings, bank reconciliation, fixed asset maintenance, and general ledger reconciliation. During the monthly close, you will be responsible for many aspects of internal reporting. In addition, you will support the development and implementation of accounting policies. In addition, you will take part in compliance, communicate with our external auditors for quarterly reviews and annual audits, and review schedules for the reporting processes. A highly involved position, it works to produce Financial Statements, Cash Flow projections, and Budgets. This company offers a challenging and multi-faceted opportunity where effort is rewarded and the role is based in the Naugautck, Connecticut region.

What you get to do every single day

  • Keep up fixed asset ledger, depreciation, and reconciliation

  • Ready complex journal entries and account reconciliations including but not limited to cash, prepaid expenses and payroll

  • Execute month end close, journal entries, with little supervision

  • Commentate on a wide variety of financial data and communicate it in a useful and understandable manner

  • Maintain monthly payment schedules

  • Participate in the month end, quarter end and year end closing process including monthly financial close workbook preparation

  • Oversee the creation of monthly balance sheet and income statement analyses for reporting to management

  • Help with the implementation, maintenance and adherence to internal controls and accounting procedures ensuring compliance with GAAP

  • Ad-hoc tasks and special projects, as needed

  • Participate in various initiatives spanning multiple departments Requirements - Knowledgeable of ERP systems

    • 2+ years of recent and relevant accounting experience

    • experienced organizational, written and verbal communication skills

    • Working knowledge of spreadsheets and databases

    • Dedication and requisite skills to meet critical business deadlines

    • Comfortable working in a changing and dynamic environment

    • Strong attention to detail

    • Self-starter, ability to identify issues and resolve problems

    • Accomplished in analytical, quantitative and social skills

    • BA/BS or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or Economics

    • Ability to work within spreadsheets and databases

    • Practical knowledge of Accounting Entries

    • Adeptness in Payroll Tax Reporting

    • Payroll tax experience preferred

    • Deep understanding of Cash Activity

    • General familiarity with Closing Entries

    • Demonstrated knowledge of Tax Reporting

    • Microsoft Excel experience highly preferred

    • Cash applications experience preferred

    • Cash Flow Reports experience

    • Automated Payroll experience
