System One Director of Capital Engineering in Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania

System One has an exciting opportunity for a Director of Capital Engineering to support a specialty metals manufacturing company in the greater Pittsburgh area. This is a direct hire opportunity offering a competitive salary, benefits, bonus and relocation assistance (if applicable).

The Director, Capital Engineering is responsible for directing, planning, and coordinating engineering programs and activities with the goal of maximizing performance and profits or share of the market while ensuring internal needs are satisfied. This includes developing and implementing policies, standards, and procedures for engineering and technical work and overseeing the development of engineering talent.

Essential Functions

  • Direct and manage the coordination and overall integration of technical activities in Capital Projects that require Engineering expertise and support.

  • Partner with management and staff to determine project specifications or procedures.

  • Assess project feasibility by analyzing technology, resource needs, and market demand.

  • Review, recommend, or approve contracts or cost estimates; Prepare budgets, bids, or contracts.

  • Present and justify proposals, reports, or findings to Sr. Leaders.

  • Review, and approve project design changes.

  • Review financial statements, engineering and activity reports, and other performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement and to determine areas needing cost reduction and program improvement with respect to engineering.

  • Provide technical expertise and business judgment as appropriate to special functions such as capital expenditure determination, equipment investigation, and execution of approved capital projects executed by all departments in the business.

  • Establish and implement engineering department goals & objectives, create execution procedures and standards, consulting with Sr. Leaders to ensure alignment.

  • Direct and coordinate organization's financial and budget activities to fund projects, maximize investments, and increase efficiency.

  • Manage and develop engineering staff, preparing work schedules and assigning specific responsibilities/projects. Plan activities such as recruitment, engineering promotions, coordinating with other department heads as required.

    Ideal Background

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or technical discipline

  • 10 years of relevant experience Project Management experience

  • Experience developing technical talent in the area of Project Management

  • Background in metals or industrial manufacturing

  • Professional Engineer License

  • MBA or Master’s degree in relevant field preferred

  • Excellent leadership, planning, budget, and organization skills

  • Strong analytical and negotiating skills

  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with all internal and external customers at all levels

  • Knowledge of engineering principles and methods. This includes engineering strategy and tactics, product demonstration, engineering techniques, and engineering control systems

  • Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to determine the best solution and solve problems

  • Ability to establish long-range objectives and specify the strategies and actions to achieve them
