Nashville State Community College Student Services Specialist II - Southeast Campus in Nashville, Tennessee

POSITION TITLE:Student Services Specialist II - Southeast Campus

POSITION SUMMARY

This position represents the college to potential students and their families, secondary schools and their respective officials, post-secondary institutions and their respective officials and the community at large. The main emphasis of this position is to recruit and build relationships with prospective Nashville State Community College students in the community and to assist them through the enrollment and financial aid process.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintains assigned recruitment territory including a visitation schedule, presentation and events as needed.

Plan, execute, and participate in recruitment events on and off campus, such as high school fairs, college fairs, campus tours, open houses and other events.

Provides student-centered service and advising to prospective students and their families regarding the college, academic offerings, admission procedures, and financial aid options. This includes assisting applicants through the application and financial aid processes.

Manage ongoing effective and strategic communication with prospective students and applicants via letters, telephone calls, personal visits, electronic and social networking mediums etc. regarding college information, course programs, resources, career options, and the enrollment process for dual enrollment and regular college admissions.

Participate in New Student Orientation.

Conduct FAFSA workshops for incoming and current students.

Coordinate assigned activities with those of other college programs, departments and external entities.

Establish and maintain professional and friendly relationships with prospective students, parents, counselors, high schools, college representatives and partnering organizations

Use available technology for data collection, analysis, and outreach for recruitment, admission, financial aid, and enrollment of students.

Conduct campus tours for prospective students, their families, and visitors to the College.

Provide regular reports on contacts to prospects and applicants, visits to schools and campus visits, as requested.

Assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating creative approaches to increase awareness about Nashville State to prospective student audiences and to increase enrollment and college completion.

Maintains and orders office supplies and other materials as needed.

Oversee student workers as needed.

May require some weekend and evening hours.

Related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree

One to two years’ experience in customer service.

Proficiency in computer software.

Proficient written and oral communication skills.

Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with students, other employees, federal and state agencies, and the general public.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bilingual in multiple languages, including Spanish and/or Arabic

Preferred knowledge of college recruitment, admissions, and/or financial aid

Two to four years’ experience in in higher education.

Experience with Ellucian products desirable, particularly Banner.

Intermediate to advanced computer skills.

Record keeping and reporting skills

Public speaking skills

Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

Critical thinking skills to identify the underlying principles, motivations, reasons, or facts by breaking down information or data into separate parts.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to work with diverse groups and communicate effectively.

Ability to organize and manage task and special projects.

Ability to represent the College in community and professional settings.

Rate of Pay: $16.04 to $19.25, depending on experience
