This role will focus the investigation and assurance of all Surface transportation transporters Globally. This includes all Middle Mile and Last Mile operations. As Amazon continues to innovate, our investigation and assurance processes must evolve with the business to maintain the highest safety standards that impact transporters, our customers, and the communities we serve.

This role requires safety gap identification, timeline management, communicating risk to senior management, and large-scale scoping. Cross-team coordination, project management, executive presentation skills, a penchant for process improvement, and a proven history of delivering results are essential for success. A bias for action and comfort in dealing with ambiguity are a must. Often times it will not be clear how we will reach our end goal; you will be expected to help carve a path by taking risks and be willing to try new things, fail fast then iterate. Strong analytics and safety experience will be valued in an applicant.

Role will be based out of one of our corporate locations in Bellevue WA or Nashville TN.

Key job responsibilities

• Create, review, approve and improve the surface transportation investigation and Assurance process

• Develop and provide guidance to site and business specific stakeholders for on the investigation and Assurance processes/procedures

• Work with various stakeholders and partners to develop programs effectively and provide implementation support.

• Analyze safety metrics and review incident weekly and monthly incident trends to discover trends to rationalize the allocation of appropriate resources to areas where the safety risk is highest.

• Validate risk assessments and safety audits to identify non-compliance equipment and/or processes involving transportation operations. Implement solutions that mitigate exposure to these risks and prevent loss of life.

• Conduct audits for compliance with over the road and in yard safety policies and procedures

• Analyze data to identify trends and provide recommendations to proactively control safety risks

• Convey findings, including escalations, to stakeholders in a clear, easily digestible format

• Continuous process improvement; use the right metrics to measure policy quality and opportunities. Look around corners and anticipate safety challenges/obstacles the business could face and proactively developing a plan to address.

• Provide guidance on training programs, developing the Amazonian safety culture, and to look for ways to improve vehicle safety.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of program or project management experience

  • Experience using data and metrics to determine and drive improvements

  • Experience owning program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety, environmental, ergonomics, logistics or a related field required

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of standards, procedures, or technical writing experience with growing responsibilities in safety programs related to transportation, production, or service operations.

  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills that convey complex ideas in a simplified manner.

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills.

  • Lead and manage complex projects with multiple stakeholder.

  • Collaborate within a highly cross-functional organization; including international partners.

  • Regulatory experience within US (e.g. OSHA, DOT) and other geographies (CA, EU, IN, JP).

  • Certification in Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar accreditation.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to support meeting facilitation and presentations.

  • Ability to transition from high-level strategic thinking to creative and detailed execution.

  • Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment.

  • Leadership experience in drivers training, program development, and fleet operations.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $92,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
