Description

Sr. Governance Manager, Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) will be responsible for strategic legal compliance, including assurance processes design, development, testing, implementation, verification, and continual improvement. The role will need to engage, collaborate, and partner with Amazon businesses, geographical units, and technical subject matter experts (SMEs) in WHS and other functions (i.e., field operations, governmental affairs, legal, engineering, data scientists, business intelligence engineers, purchasing) to continually reduce risk. More specifically, this role will serve as the principle SME for defining a strategy and scalable and reliable actions for managing workplace health and safety (WHS) legal compliance in different jurisdictions across North America. The role involves self-driven, independent, and hands-on work in the areas of understanding stakeholder needs and expectations, legal research, stakeholder engagement, data analysis, investigation and root cause analysis, and risk management. This role requires effective communication and someone who will send clear, concise, and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing.

Key job responsibilities

Workplace health and safety compliance

Key responsibilities include define, apply, and defend health and safety legal requirements; operate in alignment with legal or regulatory requirements; and test, remediate, and enhance risk management controls. Partners with legal teams to interpret and define obligations. Engage cross-organizationally with leadership to design program controls and testing strategy. Influence senior leadership to implement strategic and programmatic controls.

Workplace health and safety risk management

Key responsibilities include define and apply risk tolerances; measuring management and communicate health and safety legal risk. Define organization level risk methodology. Influence leadership in the establishment of organization level risk management. Partners with legal teams to communicate and defend product, program, and organization level risk to regulators. Make recommendations to senior management on opportunities for organizational risk .

Promote culture of workplace health and safety compliance and risk management

Key responsibilities include building risk management awareness within organizations; provide subject matter expertise and act as a risk management evangelist. Maintain subject matter expertise and current industry knowledge to advise senior leadership on emerging trends and potential impact on strategic roadmap. Earn trust of senior leadership by proactively engaging in order to understand strategic product and technical vision. Ensure risk management team is actively involved in organizational roadmap discussions. Develop and deliver risk management training to senior leadership. Conceptualize and drive implementation of cross-product technical risk management solutions to drive program efficiencies.

Other key responsibilities include benchmarking; research industry best practices; and identifying new tech solutions and vendors. Establish and leverage industry partnerships in order to inform leadership of emerging trends and competitive landscape. Influence leadership to balance risk management and customer experience in developing product roadmap. Select and establish strategic partnerships with key vendors to support risk management programs

Basic Qualifications

  • 6+ years of compliance, audit or risk management experience

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level

  • Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification

  • Experience leveraging technology and implementing lean principles / Six Sigma methodologies to drive process improvements or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $96,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
