Amergis School Occupational Therapist (OT) in Nashville, Tennessee

The Occupational Therapist (OT) is responsible for performing student evaluations, developing and providing therapy services, and documenting services in accordance with the plan of care developed for each student.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides skilled occupational therapy services/interventions in accordance with physician orders

  • Regularly reevaluates student for rehabilitation needs, and works in collaboration with the physician and other members of the healthcare team to modify the plan of care as appropriate

  • Collaborates with all disciplines to plan and evaluate team goals for each student

  • Assesses student’s needs, plans for, evaluates and modifies care to meet goals of Occupational Therapy Interventions

  • Instructs student/family/caregivers on the student's total occupational therapy program

  • Advises, consults and instructs members of the multi-disciplinary team in specific occupational therapy modalities

  • Observes and reports student progress and/or changes in student status to the physician and appropriate multi-disciplinary team members

  • Directs OT treatment and develops occupational therapy plan of care

  • Refers individuals to other disciplines as deemed appropriate and as approved by the physician

  • Reports reaction to treatment and adverse signs and symptoms to the physician, building/district nurse and the parents/caregivers

  • Teaches new skills or retrains students in once-familiar daily activities that have become difficult or unfamiliar due to illness or injury

  • Establishes equipment needs to facilitate independent functioning

  • Instructs student and family/caregiver in the use of various types of adaptive equipment to improve function; ensures equipment is in good working order

  • Trains student and family/caregiver in use of prosthetic and/or orthotic devices

  • Provides accurate and timely documentation according to the plan of care

  • Participates in IEP conferences or other meetings as required to ensure coordination of health services (if applicable)

  • Prepares and submits clinical progress-summary based on the progress of goals

  • Supervises Occupational Therapy Assistants according to company policies/procedures and State regulations

  • Complies with applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations regarding professional standards and practice standards

  • May fabricate splints and instruct individual and/or family/caregiver in the use, application and benefits

  • Performs other duties as assigned/necessary

Minimum Requirements:

  • Current licensure as an Occupational Therapist in the State of practice

  • One (1) year of prior professional Occupational Therapy experience preferred

  • Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable

  • Current CPR if applicable

  • TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable

  • Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)

  • Must meet all federal, state and local requirements

  • Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site

  • Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements

  • Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required

  • Computer proficiency required

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
