Job Summary and Qualifications

Works independently and under direction of attorneys in the section to support all phases of commercial litigation, arbitrations and government investigations. This paralegal position will have responsibility for a wide variety of litigation related tasks, including the following: handling service of process for Litigation and other areas of the company; assisting with the drafting, issuing, and maintaining legal hold notices; setting up and maintaining electronic case files, including supporting the company’s document retention and destruction policies; and conducting legal and internet research. In addition, this paralegal position will also work directly with outside counsel, company departments and outside vendors on all aspects of discovery, including the collection and production of electronic data. This paralegal position will also assist attorneys in gathering information that will be provided to auditors for accounting and securities filings purposes.

  • 80% - General case management and litigation support and discovery,

  • 15% - Legal Holds

  • 5% -Service of process, support of securities filings, general tasks

Qualifications: Successful candidate will have strong analytical, problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills; substantial knowledge of litigation processes and procedures; and ability to work with computerized data bases and research tools. Familiarity with or ability to learn Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, and PowerPoint required. Familiarity with legal hold software, electronic case management tools, and e-discovery software preferred. Prior experience with healthcare a plus.

Education/Experience: Bachelors degree. ABA Paralegal Certification or comparable (e.g., law school graduate). Five to seven years litigation paralegal experience. Participation in continuing education to maintain and enhance skills is expected and supported by the company.

Other Information: The Litigation Section consists of 8 full time litigation attorneys, all of whom handle disputes with managed care companies and two of whom are dedicated almost exclusively to such matters. These attorneys are supported by two part time general litigation attorneys as well as three contract attorneys addressing managed care disputes. There are currently four Paralegal positions, four secretarial/administrative assistants and one clerk in the section. Paralegals are assigned to support specific attorneys, or specific subject matter areas, such as managed care. Although travel is very limited, the candidate needs to be able and willing to travel occasionally, and occasionally to work evenings or weekends.
