North Central College, IL Adjunct Pool for Graduate Nursing in Naperville, Illinois

Position Summary:

The Department of Nursing at North Central College invites applicants for adjunct instructors during the 2024-2025 academic year. The successful candidate will teach one or two online graduate nursing courses per semester. Adjunct instructors are required to deliver course content consistent with learning outcomes, evaluate and grade student work, and be available for office hours to support student success.

These appointments are on a course-by-course basis. This posting is continuous to develop a qualified pool of interested candidates. If your academic area of interest/expertise meets our programmatic needs at any time, you may be contacted to discuss teaching opportunities. These needs change from semester to semester.

Faculty Associate (adjunct) positions are hired on one semester, renewable contracts with loads that do not exceed 8 credit hours; one course per semester is the norm. The standard graduate course is 3-credit hours each. The position is a non-benefits eligible, fixed-term appointment with no tenure eligibility. The number of courses is contingent upon unit needs, funding, and sufficient enrollment.

DESCRIPTION OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Model critical and reflective thinking and foster the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective development of learners.

  • Be available for office hours to support student success.

  • Provide timely, constructive and thoughtful feedback to learners.

  • Demonstrate professional and educational values and legal/ethical precepts in interactions.

  • Exhibit a spirit of inquiry about teaching and learning, student development, evaluation methods, and other aspects of the role.

  • Use current research findings and scholarly works in nursing to improve nursing education and practice.

  • Maintain clinical certification, licensure.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Individuals must possess the knowledge, skills and abilities described below or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. In ordered to fulfill the expectation of this position, a candidate must possess competency in the depth and breadth of their medical/nursing knowledge, clinical reasoning, technical skills, problem solving, professionalism and communication skills to provide high‐quality clinical and educational service to both internal and external constituents of the graduate nursing program.     QUALIFICATION STANDARDS

Required Qualifications:

· MSN or MS in Nursing degree from an accredited institution is required.

· A terminal degree (PhD, EdD, DNP ) is preferred.

· Active Illinois RN license.

· Certified FNP or PMHNP for is required for Nurse Practitioner specific courses.

· Certified Nurse Educator preferred.

Experience:

· Prior teaching experience in graduate nursing education

· Experience with technology/course management systems (e.g. CANVAS )

· Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal)

The review of applications will occur as the Department of Nursing has needs for a particular course. Applications will continue to be accepted and reviewed on an ongoing basis. This pool recruitment will be live throughout the academic year, and the department or nursing may or may not hire from it, depending on course needs. A background check and official transcripts are required prior to employment.
