A Day in the Life

• Lead capacity planning efforts to ensure the platform can accommodate growth and changing demands.

• Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for architecture, deployment procedures, and troubleshooting guides

• Promote continuous improvement using tools and practices such as Agile, Scrum

• Interfacing with mechanical, electrical, systems, and test engineers.

• Enable compliance with internal and external standards

• Reports to Sr. Engineering Manager or Engineering Manager.

• Frequent interaction with Global stake holders, Software Developers, team members from other disciplines, particularly SWQA, SW V&V engineers, to develop software test requirements and other project artifacts. Possible interaction with third-party vendors, subcontractors and other users.

• Evaluate functional and performance impact of proposed design changes related to enhancements, cost-down, and component end-of-life issues and others.

• Employ Model Based Systems Engineering best practices to document and communicate system design changes.

• Oversee, and be deeply acquainted with, regulated development processes and standards for risk management, usability, and safety to ensure systems design changes and documentation meet relevant safety and regulatory standards.

• Provide leadership and mentoring to junior engineers.

• Track and communicate status of deliverables.

• Occasional domestic and international travel may be required.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • B-Tech/BE in Computer Science/Electronics or equivalent with 17+ years of relevant experience

  • ME/M-Tech in Computer Science/Electronics or equivalent with 15+ years of relevant experience.

Skills & Experience

  • Medical Device Industry or related experience

  • Expertise in Embedded C/C++ in RTOS development environment.

  • Hands on experience in Embedded / Firmware Device Driver.

  • Experience in hardware/software interfacing and design issues required.

  • Participate in System design, coordination with teams and internal product management

  • Experience with change control, requirements management, source code control

  • Perform Code Reviews, Static Code Analysis, Dynamic Code Analysis

  • Generate Software Metrics for Unit Testing, Integration Testing

  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and organizational skills Works collaboratively with software engineers, and SW QA. Flexible in working under changing and different work settings and work in different time zones

  • Experience working in regulated environments and delivering new products in compliance with global regulatory standards

  • Prior experience Principaling the development of FDA Class I, II and III Medical Device systems

  • Prior experience with and working understanding of complex embedded systems and software

  • Experience with designing for the Hardware/Firmware and wireless interfaces of electronic devices with user-centric design practices

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, evaluates alternatives including cost and risk, supportability and analyses for total systems.

  • Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.

  • Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.

  • Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

TECHNICAL SPECIALIST CAREER STREAM: An individual contributor with responsibility in our technical functions to advance existing technology or introduce new technology and therapies. Formulates, delivers and/or manages projects assigned and works with other stakeholders to achieve desired results. May act as a mentor to colleagues or may direct the work of other lower level professionals. The majority of time is spent delivering R&D, systems or initiatives related to new technologies or therapies – from design to implementation - while adhering to policies, using specialized knowledge and skills.

May have deep knowledge of project management.

Requires a Baccalaureate degree (or for degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree which satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)( 4)(iii)(A) and minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
