Position Summary:

The mission of the Student Advising and Success Department is to foster student success by creating a resource rich learning environment that will promote lifelong learning as well as academic, career, and personal growth. Advisors empower students through meaningful, intentional student interactions to promote retention and completion. These interactions are based on the assessed and expressed educational needs of each student.

Advisors provide consistent and intrusive support, guidance, and interactions to assigned advisees. Advisors intentionally connect career exploration and development to academic planning, fostering a student-centered success environment through programming and community building activities, and connecting students to CWI and community resources to support their success.

Essential Functions:

• Foster a student-centered success environment for students through programming, faculty

and student interaction, and community building activities.

• Build intentional and supportive relationships with assigned advisees.

• Work closely with faculty, administration, and other student services staff to provide

complete and accurate academic advising information, to advocate for and support student

success and excellent service to students.

• Lead goal-driven academic advising for assigned advisees.

• Monitor student progress to degree completion and offer intervention services for at-risk

students.

• Plan, implement, and assess delivery of success and retention activities and programming.

• Plan and monitor advisees on Academic Alert, Probation, Academic Suspension.

• Keep abreast of federal and state regulations related to admission, financial aid, and

course and degree completion.

• Maintains expert-level knowledge of applicable policies, procedures, regulations, rules,

statutes and laws.

• Assists students in understanding how they are impacted by college, state, and federal

procedures, regulations, rules, statutes and laws.

• Provide first line support for student conduct issues.

• Assess student need and provide referrals to CWI, academic, and community resources.

• Model problem-solving strategies and civil discourse in support of student success.

• Participate in institutional, school, and department initiatives to foster student success.

• Advise students in making career related decisions, using assessment instruments where

appropriate.

• Assist students (and alumni) in the use of existing resources for learning about careers of

interest to them; critique resumes, and assist with programs and services related to career

development and placement activities.

• Plan, implement, and assess academic success, faculty interaction, career exploration,

and community development programs.

• Develop, coordinate, facilitate, and/or present academic planning and career development

workshops.

• Acts with integrity and upholds the NACADA Advising Core Values.

• Conveys by words and actions the values expected by CWI.

• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree; or equivalent work experience. Master’s Degree in a relevant discipline

preferred.

• Strong technical abilities: database systems, presentation software, Microsoft Office

suites, or equivalent.

• Strong cross-cultural interpersonal and writing skills are necessary.

• Strong public speaking skills and ability to represent the college in a positive way to

diverse populations.

• Strong Event Planning/Coordination skills.

• Ability to interpret, follow, and administer academic and administrative policy.

• Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

• Ability to function as an integral and positive member of a team.

• Ability to travel between various locations throughout the day.

• 2-3 years of experience college/university advising, career counseling, admission,

registrar, or financial aid office, or goal-oriented client/customer service work preferred.

• Experience working in a community college setting, serving a diverse, non-traditional

student population preferred.

• Experience with Ellucian (Datatel) Colleague ERP or other major ERP systems preferred.

• Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred.
