Position Information

Job Title Student Assistant (Work Study)-Human Resources (Records Maintenance)

General Description

This is a federal work-study student position responsible for assisting in the operations and activities of a department or a departmental project, program, or function. This specific position is responsible for assisting in the review and reorganization of files at an offsite storage location and the campus department location. Some job functions will require the use of varying levels of physical exertion.

Job Duties

  1. Assists in file and records maintenance as part of the university’s record retention procedures.

  2. Assists in the preparation and implementation of departmental project/program activities.

  3. May perform work in varying environmental conditions including summer heat, winter cold, wind, rain, and/or humidity.

  4. Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  1. Knowledge of general office and clerical procedures and concepts.

  2. Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records and files.

  3. Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with university faculty and staff, students, and the general public.

  4. Ability to understand and follow instructions.

  5. Physical condition adequate to permit full performance of duties.

    Required Qualifications

The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.

No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided.

A student must be awarded and accept a “Work-Study Permit” for the Spring 2024 semester.

Preferred Qualifications

Physical Demands

  1. Must be able to work in non-air conditioned spaces.

  2. Ability to work while standing and to withstand the physical strain of lifting very heavy objects.

  3. Must be able to work outside in heat and cold.

  4. Must be able to lift and move boxes up to 100 pounds using devices such as dollies and/or carts.

    Special Conditions for Eligibility

A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment for the spring or fall semester. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.

Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
