Position Information

Job Title Student Assistant - Digital Animation Lab

General Description

This is a student position responsible for assisting in providing technical support to students in support of departmental projects, programs, and/or activities. Position will follow a structured duty list of procedures and protocols. Works under close supervision, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Job Duties

  1. Monitors digital animation lab with Apple computers outside of class time.

  2. Answers questions and helps students using resources provided by the instructor.

  3. Assists with equipment check-in and check-out.

  4. Submits weekly documentation of lab activities using format provided by the instructor.

  5. Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  1. Knowledge of project file management.

  2. Knowledge of 2D and 3D digital terminology and conceptual understanding.

  3. Skill in research.

  4. Ability to demonstrate technical proficiency with computers pertaining to software and hardware.

  5. Ability to assess and evaluate hardware and software compatibilities.

  6. Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with university students, faculty, and staff.

  7. Ability to understand and follow instructions.

  8. Ability to think critically.

  9. Ability to problem solve using a provided list of procedures and protocols.

  10. Ability to accurately prepare and maintain records and files.

  11. Ability to work evening hours.

    Required Qualifications

The minimum education required for admittance as a student at Stephen F. Austin State University.

Minimum of one animation or digital course, a computer science background, or related degree track is required.

No direct experience is required. Training and instruction will be provided.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Familiarity with 3D software is preferred.

  2. Experience with face-to-face customer service is preferred.

  3. Ability to guide others towards solutions when presented with technical issues, such as research recommendations, is preferred.

    Special Conditions for Eligibility

A student must be enrolled in six or more semester hours to be eligible for student employment during the fall or spring semesters. To be eligible for student employment during the summer, a student must be enrolled in three or more semester hours or be registered for courses in the upcoming fall semester.

Student assistants may not hold any other type of position such as a graduate assistantship or temporary casual employment at the same time that they are employed as a student assistant.
