Job Description:

The clinical neuropsychologist is trained in the science of brain-behavior relationships and specializes in the application of assessment and intervention principles based on the scientific study of human behavior across the lifespan as it relates to normal and abnormal functioning of the central nervous system. Patient assessment and diagnostic services focus on cognitive, psychological, and behavioral problems. The neuropsychologist performs neuropsychological evaluations, collaboratively develops care plans, and executes interventions for individuals with traumatic brain injury, stroke, neurodegenerative syndromes, epilepsy, brain tumors, somatoform and other neurological/mental health conditions and developmental disorders as indicated.

Position Details

The neuropsychologist will work in the outpatient Neurosciences Institute and on the inpatient rehabilitation unit at Intermountain Medical Center and will provide neuropsychological care to the inpatient rehabilitation unit, which is part of a CARF-Accredited Trauma I treatment center, as well as provide outpatient neuropsychological testing and outpatient psychotherapy with neurological populations. Some flexibility exists for hours as long as required meetings are kept. Position is usually 8am to 5pm.

Job Essentials

Provide evaluation and develop treatment for patients with cognitive, psychological and/or behavioral impairment. The assessment may include medical conditions, injuries or other neuro-cognitive disorders. If indicated, the neuropsychologist will implement treatment or make appropriate referrals for treatment. The neuropsychologist also works with other care providers and team members to facilitate and monitor care.

Participate in providing education opportunities for colleagues, patients, families and community members.

Engage in research opportunities as interest, skills, and time constraints allow.

Comply with federal, state, local and clinical program/facility standards.

Provide care and treatment within the scope of the Mental Health Practice Act.

Participate in multidisciplinary teams in the evaluation and treatment of patients as appropriate.

For those settings which employ psychometricians or trainees, the neuropsychologist will provide appropriate supervision of these subordinates, complying with requirements from partner institutions and standard professional practices.

Minimum Qualifications

Doctorate degree (Ph.D. or PsyD) in Clinical Psychology or Clinical Neuropsychology from an accredited institution (degree will be verified).

Current Utah license as a psychologist or able to be licensed in Utah before employment begins.

Familiar with neuropsychological, personality, achievement, and emotional functioning assessment procedures used to provide diagnostic/treatment recommendations.

Clinical education and training focused on diagnostic neuropsychological assessment.

Psychologist will adhere to all appropriate standards of practice as outlined by the American Psychological Association, State Licensing Board, and Intermountain Healthcare.

Preferred Qualifications

Inpatient rehabilitation experience

Spanish Speaking

Board Certified in Neuropsychology.

Membership in the National Academy of Neuropsychologists, International Neuropsychology Society, or American Psychological Association, Division 40 and/or Division 22.

Completion of post-doctoral internship or fellowship in a setting focused on patients with neurological or medical conditions (e.g., TBI, concussions and neurodegenerative conditions).

Experience with capacity evaluations to determine under what circumstances patients can participate in decision-making.

  • and -

Interest in participating in population health initiatives for cognitive care at Intermountain.
