Murray State University Veterinary Case Coordinator/Assistant Professor in Murray, Kentucky

Summary of Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Serves as liaison between the laboratory and customers, receiving diagnostic samples, routing for testing, releasing non-pathology test results, and answering customer and staff questions.

  • Liaison with referring veterinarians, owners, staff, food producers, government agencies, and other laboratories.

  • Receives diagnostic samples for testing (e.g., takes case history, unloads animals, preparing and routing laboratory samples, etc.) Review and coordinate on all non­ tissue/pathology laboratory cases; release diagnostic laboratory reports and ensure accuracy, clarity and completeness.

  • Supervises shipping and receiving personnel. Ensures Receiving Area is manned during all business hours (including lunch).

  • Monitors current processes and policies for receiving and routing incoming cases; ensures regulatory compliance to include accreditation standards, develops new procedures and policies as needed.

  • Participates in and ensures compliance with the quality management, biosafety, and bio­security programs.

  • Develops Continuing Education Programs for Veterinarians; find speakers, professional instructors and sponsors for programs; invites veterinarians, organizes program

  • Develops educational programs for presentation to primary and secondary students; may be veterinary or animal science in nature; distributes or presents to area schools.

  • Provides tours and educational programs for post-secondary education groups, stakeholder groups at BVC .

  • Attends and represents BVC at stakeholder meetings, veterinary meetings; provides outreach to veterinarians, farmers and pet owners as determined by the Director.

  • Perform special projects as determined by the Director.

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • DVM or equivalent/comparable veterinary degree

Minimum Experience and Skill Requirements:

  • Ability to manipulate large animal carcasses.

  • Food and/or companion animal practice experience.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, supervisory, multi-tasking, and organizational skills

  • Problem solving ability to troubleshoot deficiencies, identify corrective actions, evaluate new processes and materials/equipment, implement plans, and develop preventive actions.

  • Pleasant, proactive personality with the ability to handle demanding situations, quickly adapt to address changing circumstances and personalities, and work as a team

  • Alertness, initiative, memory for verbal and written directions and details, analytical ability.

  • Ability to plan and make decisions often without instruction or supervision
