Operational Risk

The Operations Risk job specializes in operational risk by analyzing losses involved with the organization's internal processes, systems and people. Under limited supervision, this job develops and implements global risk management reports, systems and processes related to risk challenges. This job also supports continuous improvement efforts and the creation of technology-based tools and metrics to minimize risks and associated challenges.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Establishes risk tolerance guidelines and policies, ensuring the risk of exposure of the organization is within these guidelines.

  • Determines best practices for business activities to control various risks by researching all investment risk management policies, procedures, limits and guidelines.

  • Develops and performs statistical data analysis to report, monitor, measure and manage various aspects of investment risk exposures.

  • Implements ongoing model validation processes that determine effectiveness and accuracy of existing analysis models.

  • Creates and implements a risk management framework to better manage and report aggregate global investments risk exposures.

  • Supports efforts to implement continuous improvement ideas to drive transparency and effectiveness of technology and controls.

  • Contributes input to creating technology-based tools and metrics to create effective and efficient reporting with the goal minimizing risk exposure.

  • Reviews work of lower level professionals, providing guidance and support.

Position Summary: Describe below the primary purpose and function of this job.

Work with the business to facilitate and ensure effective implementation of the Operational Risk Program. This involves the maintenance and implementation of the standardized, risk-based strategy, policy, process and tools to identify, mitigate, monitor and control Operational Risk. The role requires communication about the policy, the process, the standards and the specific supplier risks with various risk oversight committees, business area management, supplier relationship managers, control area partners, project partners and sourcing staff. The role also requires the incumbent to manage projects across risk leveraging tools and techniques such as Agile, Lean and Six Sigma. Furthermore, understanding of new technologies and experience in Tableau and Python will be an added advantage.

Key Duties & Responsibilities : List up to 5 key duties and responsibilities, management responsibilities and time spent (if applicable)

As the second line of defense, ensure the implementation of the Operationsl Risk Management Program by the Business in TIAA India. The individual will lead the RCSA program and other operational risk related activities for TIAA india

  • Working independently and under limited supervision, monitors RCSA activities at multiple business area levels, identifies gaps and tracks gaps until effectively remediated.

  • Manage and oversee risk related projects leveraging tool and techniques such as Agile, Leand Six Sigma

  • Conduct training on the RCSA process to key stakeholders, including Senior leaders and Critical Stakeholders.

  • Responsible for BA RCSA attestation, control validation, issue management, incident loss reporting

  • Actively assist and in some cases help the “first line of defense” to identify and analyze all other types of risks affecting TIAA India, in creating risk metrics and in designing mitigation solutions. In some cases, be capable of providing solid guidance on mitigation solutions.

  • Challenge the business regarding risks that are identified to ensure they are adequately documented and quantified, and that mitigation is adequate to get the residual risk within risk appetite. Escalate when risks do exceed risk appetite.

  • Create executive level written and metric based reports and dashboards to highlight key operational risk as well as any issues, incidents, trends and potential impacts.

  • Manage and oversee documentation relating to Risk transitions and provide oversight.

  • Create and maintain TIAA India Operational Risk Dashboards/Metrics and Adherence Summaries

  • Leverage technologies such as Python and Tubule to gain gain insights through data.

Skills and Abilities:

Good Knowledge on Project management discipline and demonstrated success overseeing multiple projects to completion.

Ability to think critically, comprehend detailed business, technology and risk concepts and develop and defend an independent position that’s based on a pragmatic and balanced assessment.

Well-developed listening skills with a well-tuned ability to summarize quickly identify key points and provide feedback effectively.

Good oral and written communication skills.

Ability to quickly build relationships with all levels of the business, but especially at senior executive levels.

Strong organizational/analytical/problem-solving abilities.

Hands-on experience effectively utilizing one of the leading GRC solutions - preferably Archer eGRC.

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and tableau

Experience in Python will be an added advantage.

Handson experience on leveraging tools and techniques such as Agile, Lean and Six Sigma.
