Microsoft Corporation Principal Software Engineering Manager in Multiple Locations, United States

The Commerce + Ecosystems team is looking for a Principal Software Engineering Manager who can manage a team of engineers helping us transform large scale data systems that can serve data rapidly on products consumed in Microsoft Clouds. You will be working with Azure data technologies to process billions of records per day to help power business insights. This team works on hyperscale data processing in cloud computing and provides reliable and consistend revenue reporting for Microsoft Product Teams, Finance, Sales, Marketing & Support.

We are looking for a Principal Software Engineering Manager with a passion for learning and bringing fresh ideas to solve hyperscale problems and make changes daily as you build solutions by architecting, designing, and leading a team of highly motivated engineers. This person will be producing architecture, reviewing designs, and providing feedback and partnering with other talented leaders in and out of the organization to build distributed, resilient, scalable applications using the latest data technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Work with product managers, and partner teams and engineers to deliver a data product with scalable design and architecture.

  • Architect, design and build large scale data systems and distributed systems by leveraging Azure cloud technologies.

  • Come up detailed project plans to deliver on requirements and oversee execution of the projects by the team.

  • Attract and retain talent while supporting career development and growth of team members.

  • Managing DevOps and safe deployment practices and defines infrastructure as code.

  • Shares, defines best practices and standards that can be applied to improve system, platform, and product development.

  • Lead data-driven development and drive continuous improvements throughout software development.

  • Contribute to the product fundamentals, compliance and securing dev, pre-production, and production environments.

  • Support ongoing engagements with product management teams by participating in reviewing Business requirements, Functional specs, User acceptable tests and conducting sign off processes.

  • Organize and lead scrum meetings, track dependencies, and manage project schedules

  • Handle production incidents by engaging engineers and stakeholders, provide technical expertise, manage communications and expectations in response to incidents.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 6 + years of experience with Apache Spark, Scala or Python and SQL.

Other Requirements:

The ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 4+ years people management experience.

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
