Microsoft Corporation Senior Product Manager - Linux in Multiple Locations, Czech Republic

This means that Linux already drives billions of dollars in business for Microsoft, and represents one of our most important growth opportunities. However, we don’t just consume Linux technologies, we strive to be positive, active participants in relevant upstream communities, contributing back to ensure the health of the key open source projects on which we and our customers depend.

As a Senior Product Manager within the Azure Core Linux Community and Customer Engineering team, you will represent Microsoft to upstream Linux communities with a particular focus on security; define and prioritize engineering investments to support and advance our customers' security posture in Azure. This opportunity will allow you to influence the direction of Linux across the industry and within Microsoft, develop technical understanding of various Linux technologies and standards, particularly with respect to security, and further develop your understanding of and profile within the Linux, open source and security communities. This position is flexible to working from home and you will be expected to work with colleagues and community members in remote locations around the world.

Responsibilities

  • Work with upstream Linux communities and partner teams within Microsoft to improve the quality, reliability, performance and security of Linux on Azure.

  • Drive business impact across the organization, and also impact on the security organizations and communities with which we work, and track success criteria for multiple feature areas.

  • Identify long-term opportunities for feature investments or security posture improvements, and engage partners and the community to garner support for those opportunities.

  • Partner with others to collect performance metrics and form hypotheses for complex technical needs in order to improve the support and security of Linux and open source technologies in Azure.

  • Identify features to deprecate, manage customer and partner communities, and build trust with the community as well as targeted customers.

  • Partner with our Community Engagement and Product Marketing teams to highlight our contributions to Linux, Linux security, and related open-source projects at community and industry events, and through authoring technical blogs and articles.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree and experience in product/service/project/program management or software development OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience as a program or product manager having managed a program or project from inception to delivery.

  • Proficient in configuring Linux systems for production deployments.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and inclusively as part of a globally distributed team.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional / Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with open source communities in a program or product manager role.

  • Experience working with a variety of Linux distributions.

  • Leadership experience within an open source or security community (e.g., as project lead, maintainer, release lead, or similar).

  • Experience working with cloud services (Azure, AWS, GCP, or other cloud platforms).
