Position Title: Development Manager

Reporting Line: R&D Director

Position Purpose:

This role is accountable for full end-to-end delivery of software product(s) with either direct or indirectly managed team members.

This position is expected to provide technical and product thought leadership across Software as a Service (SaaS) and Human Capital Management (HCM) solutions. Leverages experience in product development with focus on improving engineering quality, agility in the business environment, and talent development. Collaborates with other teams and business units to deliver solutions exceeding client expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build, manage and mature the development practice, associates, associated governance models, frameworks and tools to support the practice and delivery activities.

  • Provide leadership in driving and continuously improving Agile development methodologies.

  • Effective interaction with multiple business units i.e. Sales, Marketing, Implementation and Client Services around product releases and operations.

  • Focus on identifying talent and developing high-performing teams; drive and support innovation and continuous improvement with a DevOps mindset.

  • Hands-on oversight of software development, including solution architectures, technical designs and implementation.

  • Receive assignments in the form of objectives and determine how to use resources to meet schedules and goals. Provide guidance to associates within the latitude of established company policies.

  • Review estimates to ensure that they are reasonable and aligned to historical norms where applicable; advise on alternate strategies to achieve outcomes more effectively.

  • Apply appropriate governance and communicate progress and risks to all stakeholders; manage risks and issues using appropriate mitigation strategies.

  • Demonstrate ownership of problems, issues, or requests from start to finish. Facilitate appropriate handoffs.

  • Ensure that solutions are compliant with statutory and organisational policies and standards.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in software development in a commercial software development team.

  • 3+ years of technical leadership and/or people management in a software product-centric environment.

  • A proven track record of successfully leading high-performing Agile teams to deliver effective software solutions, preferably in a financial services or HCM environment.

  • Experience working within a multinational organization, with matrix reporting lines.

  • Expertise with web-based or desktop-based systems architectures, as well as experience managing expectations when balancing alternatives against business and financial constraints.

  • Experience implementing Continuous Delivery / DevOps operating models with proven outcomes.

  • Hands-on expertise in some of the following technologies:

  • Java, Node.js, Angular and their common frameworks (including Spring).

  • SQL / NoSQL databases

  • AWS CloudFormation, CDK, Terraforms, or similar.

  • Profound knowledge of Scrum or other Agile methodologies and practices.

Certifications / Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science / Software Engineering, or equivalent technical qualifications.

  • Scrum master certification (CSM / PSM)

  • Recent certifications in AWS or other cloud technologies strongly preferred.
