Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Controller, actively participates in the daily standard cost accounting function in an MRP environment, in addition to the month-end close process, pulling reports and schedules, and preparing inventory and costing journal entries and reconciling accounts. Assists the Vice President of Operations preparing reports which summarize functional manufacturing, sales and cost activity, analysis of operational performance metrics for the Industrial and Municipal business units, explaining variances from standards and budget, and monitoring expenses for compliance to budgets. Oversees and directs staff accountant with direct responsibility for manufacturing operations.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Reviews and posts daily manufacturing accounting entries.

  • Reviews cost and variance trends; researching significant price variations and recommending appropriate response.

  • Prepares weekly operating performance analysis; including inventory movements, sales, and cost of goods sold.

  • Reviews new BOMs and Routers submitted for cost freeze for accuracy.

  • Performs monthly inventory valuation and reconciliation of cost ledgers.

  • Supervise cycle counting process and review and approve cycle count variances and inventory adjustments.

  • Evaluates and approves cost review requests, including operating impact analysis.

  • Process CAPEX requests, tracking spend and capitalization of asset as required.

  • Prepare monthly salesperson commission analysis

  • Prepares and monitors manufacturing budgets and forecasts.

  • Establishes labor and overhead rates in line with operating budgets.

  • Performs annual cost roll and inventory revaluation. Works with purchasing and operations management to enhance accuracy of cost components.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's):

  • Exceptional computer skills with a command knowledge of all software programs used by the organization (e.g. JD Edwards, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).

  • Familiarity with Sarbanes-Oxley and internal controls.

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries from regulatory agencies. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information to company employees and management.

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid, well thought and supported conclusions.

  • Establishes credibility and trust easily. Respects confidentiality and ethical standards of the position. Able to multi-task with the ability to take on additional project assignments without sacrificing accuracy and timeliness of foundation.

  • Strong knowledge of standard cost system and understanding of price and work order variances.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting.

  • CPA preferred or equivalent experience.

  • 5 to 8 years work experience in a standard costing manufacturing environment.
