JOB TITLE: Tax Rebate Specialist

DEPARTMENT: Accounting & Finance

REPORTING TO: Digital Factory Manager

LOCATION: Witbank, Mpumalanga

The Tax Rebate Specialist is responsible for overseeing Mining Rebate activities within the environment in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) region and supporting the Data and Decision Science Manager in the accurate and timely production of SARS Rebate reporting.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Mining Diesel Rebate

  • VAT diesel refund

  • Tax VAT rebates

  • Overseeing the preparation, submission, and tracking of mining diesel rebate applications.

  • Ensuring compliance with SARS regulations and requirements.

  • Analyzing and interpreting relevant legislation and updates related to mining diesel rebates.

  • Gathering and organizing data necessary for mining diesel rebate applications.

  • Analyzing financial and operational data to support rebate claims.

  • Verifying data accuracy and completeness.

  • Liaising with internal and client stakeholders (e.g., finance, tax, operations) to gather required information and support rebate claims.

  • Communicating with external parties such as tax advisors, auditors, and SARS officials regarding rebate matters.

  • Providing guidance and support to colleagues on mining diesel rebate procedures and requirements.

  • Ensuring adherence to all tax laws and regulations applicable to mining diesel rebates.

  • Responding to mining diesel audits and inquiries related to rebate claims.

  • Implementing internal controls and procedures to mitigate risks associated with rebate processes.

  • Prepare and process all geo zone activities in line with the fuel consumption and mining activity daily, monthly, quarterly and annually.

  • Reconcile the Mining Diesel Rebate activities via Master data on the system.

Taxation

  • Managing and overseeing tax compliance activities related to mining diesel rebates

  • Ensuring timely and accurate preparation, filing, and submission of tax returns for various entities within the region

  • Identifying and evaluating tax rebate and incentive programs offered by SARS for eligible activities

  • Advising on strategies to maximize tax rebates and incentives available under applicable tax laws.

  • Maintaining accurate and organized records of tax-related transactions, filings, and correspondence with tax authorities.

  • Ensuring compliance with document retention policies and procedures.

  • Continuously improving mining diesel processes and controls to enhance efficiency and compliance.

  • Implementing best practices and adopting new technologies to streamline tax-related activities.

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Education/ achievements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or similar qualification

  • Higher Diploma in Taxation or

  • BCom Honours degree in Taxation

Experience/ Knowledge

  • Minimum 3 years' experience with Tax

  • Mining / Transport industry

Specific Skills

  • Ability to communicate across levels with internal stakeholders, customers, and suppliers.

  • High Degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work under pressure and deliver to tight deadlines
