Google UX Director, Search Verticals in Mountain View, California

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in interaction design, human computer interaction, industrial design or equivalent practical experience.

  • 15 years of professional experience, or 13 years with an advanced degree.

  • 10 years of experience with product design.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 2 years of demonstrated distributed global organization leadership experience.

  • Experience with organizational transformation and design education to foster team growth.

  • Experience fostering divergent design thinking and shepherding radical ideas that can truly evolve products.

  • Proven track record of using UX to influence strategic decision making, communicate strategic concepts, and facilitate understanding.

  • Proven ability to drive impact across multiple cross-product initiatives with a complex group of stakeholders.

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to listen and articulate positions to influence and challenge partners with new design thinking.

Search UX drives design, research, and strategy across Search’s key surfaces. Search continues to drive the core of Google’s business, and Search Verticals are a key driver of growth, and are a place Google innovates on core user needs across key information verticals like jobs, education, finance, weather, sports, tv/movies, and more. The work within Search Verticals is incredibly user focused, and core to the team’s mission is delivering end-to-end UX solutions that help people with verticalized information needs across Google’s product ecosystem including Search, Google Assistant, and more.

When we look at user needs within Search, we see people needing help making sense of their world across a range of topics, from immediate daily needs like checking the weather or scores for their favorite sports team, to longer-term needs like planning for college, a new career, or starting a family. As a UX Director for Search Verticals, you will help drive a user-centered vision for how to better help people in the key information needs within their life. This includes driving foundational research, defining product strategy, and leading cutting-edge design solutions across some of the most visible product surfaces in the world. You will work closely with senior cross-functional partners, and be a strong advocate for delivering non-pareil design solutions, while fostering a strong culture of innovation and collaboration with Product Management, Engineering, Marketing, and other key partners.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $253,000-$363,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.   • Lead the development and evolution of a multi-year product strategy for shifting user needs across key information verticals, and build execution strategies across key surfaces including Search and Google Assistant.

  • Build strong relationships with senior leaders and cross-functional partners to shape our overall strategy/plans for user trust; plan and lead decision-making forums. Work extremely cross-functionally, including deep partnerships with Engineering, Product Management, Legal, Policy, PR, and Marketing. Partner closely with compliance and develop a proactive strategy around the global regulatory environment.

  • Build and manage a high performing UX team. Set clear goals and objectives while balancing short-term development with long-term career growth.

  • Communicate best practices to partners to support the strategic priorities of Search and Google Assistant.
