Garrett County Utilities Service Technician III in Oakland, Maryland

SUMMARY: This position organizes assigned onsite repair, maintenance, and installation of all utilities. The position includes primary operations of directional drilling equipment and underground utility construction. Employees may be required to work overtime, holidays, weekends, and on-call duty for emergencies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Operation and complete knowledge of directional drill equipment Operate excavator, backhoes, skid steer, and all associated utility construction equipment This position will be required at times to fill in as temporary supervisor Perform preventive and corrective maintenance activities on mechanical and electrical components used in water and wastewater infrastructure. Coordinate excavation for the installation and/or repair of water and wastewater mains and laterals, manholes, valves, pumps, hydrants, and related appurtenances. Establishes and oversees traffic control in and around work areas. Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or GED Working knowledge of all utility related equipment Directional drill experience required

LANGUAGE SKILLS: This position requires language skills sufficient to communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers and the public.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Possession of CDL license with tanker endorsement is required A valid motor vehicle operators license is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work requires frequent bending, stooping, reaching, climbing, walking, crawling, pushing, pulling, handling and heavy lifting up to 80 pounds. The ability to be fitted for and use Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) is required. Confined space entry is a requirement of this position with training provided.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work occurs in all weather conditions with frequent exposure to outdoor temperatures. Electrical hazards are also present with this position.
