Requisition Summary

This position will provide technical leadership regarding functional safety principles and processes to a multi-discipline design and validation team.

Job Functions / Responsibilities

  • Develop functional and technical safety processes and concepts for the test and validation of heavy truck systems, including driver assistance systems, electric vehicle systems and alternative fuel vehicles.

  • Facilitate teams conducting risk and safety analyses of proposed truck systems and tests using tools such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Hazard Assessments, and Fault Tree Analysis

  • Interpret function requirements and develop test cases for safety-critical functions.

  • Lead the creation and tracking of functional safety test plans

  • Develop and maintain expertise in automotive best practices for functional safety.

  • Give presentations and write reports documenting processes and their application to specific test projects.

  • Develop and improve test methodologies.

  • Fosters good communications.

  • Travel up to 10%

    Required Qualifications & Skills

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science or other relevant field

  • Minimum five years of experience in heavy duty truck industry. Experience in truck operation is preferred (CDL not required).

  • Minimum three years of experience in functional safety engineering.

  • Knowledge of ISO 26262 and experience with its application. Functional Safety Engineering certification preferred.

  • Familiarity with Controller Area Network (CAN) operation, especially J1939

  • Ability to work well in a team environment

  • Ability to summarize technical issues and communicate effectively

  • Ability to manage personal workload and willingness, flexibility and initiative to respond to shifting time and project demands

  • Strong presentation skills
