Position Summary:

The goal of TRIO Upward Bound, and Talent Search is to increase the rate at which participants complete high school and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education. The Summer Academy portion is an intense (6) six-week summer program, which includes a residential living-learning experience. Students engage in academic curriculum, college access workshops and cultural activities. The Summer Academy for students begin May 20, 2024 - July 31, 2024.

This position is located in Detroit and Troy and in-person. The role will require individuals to participate in the residential living-learning experience on the campus from July 21 - July 26, 2024.

This year the residential program will be five to seven days. Individuals will be compensated with room and board, meals, along with their wage for on campus summer experience at CMU.

Participation in the Out of Class Learning Experience is on a volunteer basis and assigned at the discretion of the Director.

Required Qualifications:

Must have a passion for working with youth, be able to be a model to middle and high school students, and relate personal college experiences to students. Must possess good communication skills, problems solving skills, and conflict resolution skills. Must hold students accountable for their actions. Must be a team player and be committed to the principles and philosophy of TRIO Upward Bound and Talent Search program. Must be flexible, patient, and able to enforce program guidelines. Must not show favoritism, but show respect for yourself, the program, and for the students. Must adhere to all program, institution, school partner guidelines, and COVID guidelines.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred applicant is a sophomore college status or higher.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Employment is available May 2024 -- July 2024. Candidates must be available to work the entire six week summer academy, June 17, 2024 -- July 21, 2024, and attend staff training on campus and/or Detroit May 18, 20 -- 22, 2024.

• Exemplify mature and professional behavior at all times. • Assist with monitoring students on a daily basis throughout the summer program and oversee a group of assigned students. • Adhere to all confidentiality and social media policies and procedures of students. • Assist with daily set-up and break down of program activities and meals. • Assist with administrative task such as case notes, filing, data entry, phone calls, printing, etc. • Attend all fieldtrips, meetings and training programs related to the Summer Academy. • Meet daily with individual students in your group to assess their adjustment to the academy foreseeing any social or academic issues. • Assist with bilingual (Spanish/Arabic/English) task such but not limited to phone calls to parents, and presentations. • Submit weekly progress reports on your assigned task and student group, as required. • Assist with creating and facilitating educational programs and workshops. • Must be able to move in a fast-paced environment and take initiative on task. • Report any student problems (social, academic, or personal) to the TRIO Director and/or Project Staff. • Create daily "TRIO Newsletter" with upcoming events. • Complete an incident report form and/or a medical emergency report form, and any additional program report/form as necessary. • Participate in and attend the UB Summer Academy Closing Ceremony as scheduled. • During the residential portion: • The position requires staff to live in resident halls and assist with morning and evening implementation of the total residential program and daily program as needed. • Supervise, monitor, and evaluate 8-15 high school residents in a co-e
