Description

The Assistant Director will be responsible for coordinating various human resources projects and programs, providing support for College-wide and strategic training initiatives, pension and benefits administration and the recruitment of College employees. In concert with the Director, the Assistant Director will provide analytical services and management consultation in the areas of employment, employee relations, and College policies.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees day-to-day operations and staff of the Office of Human Resources.

  • Coordinates the preparation and conducting of on-going college-developed training programs, including the training system; coordinates external training initiatives.

  • Maintains, revises and develops policies, procedures and priorities to meet established goals and ensure legislative compliance.

  • Manages the performance evaluation process and system.

  • Supervises the planning, scheduling, and coordination of department activities.

  • Conducts research and analysis of organizational trends including review of reports and metrics from the organization's human resource information system (HRIS) or talent management system

  • Fosters positive employee relations and employee morale college-wide.

  • Manages HRIS data integrity, particularly utilizing the current database software to produce reports and collaborate closely with Information Technology staff, Payroll and Budget Office, Institutional Research, and the Executive Staff on projects using personnel data.

  • Monitors and ensures the college's compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance.

  • Maintains relationships with benefits brokers and oversees contracts, premium increases, etc.

  • Review or conduct investigations of employee or supervisory complaints, grievances, or concerns in the workplace and work to solve issue and maintain a productive work environment.

  • Assist or handle special projects as assigned.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

OVERALL PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY:

The primary and most important overall responsibility of all employees is to provide service in a pleasant, helpful, and effective manner to our students and other members of the College community.

Minimum Qualifications

Education Required:

Bachelor’s degree required, Human Resources or Business Administration emphasis preferred

Education Preferred:

Master’s degree in relevant field of study; certified HR professional

Experience Required:

  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as an HR generalist, HRIS or training specialist

  • Minimum three (3) years’ supervisory experience

  • Previous experience in College, school, or University Human Resources preferred

Skills/Abilities /Knowledge /Other Requirements

  • Extensive demonstrable working knowledge of excel (v-lookups, pivot tables, etc.).

  • Knowledge of Colleague is preferred.

  • Exceptional interpersonal and customer service skills.

  • Ability to organize, prioritize tasks, take initiative, and meet deadlines.

  • Excellent analytical skills and experience in detailed accounting transactions, processes, and systems.

  • Demonstrates strong supervisory, management, and leadership skills.

  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively at all levels of the organization.

  • Dynamic problem-solving skills with the ability to handle difficult and complex issues.

Additional Information

INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS:

Collaborates with department members and/or the Compliance, Assessment and Research team to support planning, assessment, data collection and reporting for continuous improvement of the college.
