The Engineering Development Program (EDP) is a flexible twelve month program that addresses the onboarding needs of engineers and technologists hired directly into their full time positions.
JOB PURPOSE: As an entry level, engineering degreed position, job assignments are planned to provide experience and familiarization with the technical staff, methods, practices and programs of the company, specific to the electric drive organization.
As an entry level engineer in the Power Electronic Systems & Component team , you will be joining an innovative team on the cutting edge of electric drive technology. You will have the opportunity to learn and assist with the concept generation, development, and design of power electronic components. The power electronic systems & components team is part of the overall electric drive organization and is responsible for end to end design and development of power electronics for multiple Caterpillar applications. You will have the opportunity to gain an understanding of Caterpillar’s business, electric drive products, power electronic systems & components and development procedures. You will learn and develop skills which result from the practical application of basic engineering knowledge through work on inverter and converter design as well as circuit board design, analysis and test. You will work closely with other members of the design team and partner with the global teams working on projects focused onelectric drive for construction, surface mining, underground mining and stationary / microgrid applications.You will have the opportunity to learn and stay abreast of innovative power conversion technology, and broaden your professional network. You will have the opportunity to work with and learnlearn from a highly experienced team of engineers having significant experience across Caterpillar electric drive developments
Key areas of responsibility encountered in this role may include any or all of the following: perform needs analysis and initiate ideas; evaluate new products, processes or systems; communicate results to customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units; contribute to the design of new products and processes; perform product and process maintenance; support other engineers, managers, marketing personnel, customers and suppliers.
Attention to detail is critical. Uses readily available clear and direct references and provides straightforward solutions to problems. Collects and evaluates data and develops plans for assignments. Associate Engineers may expect to have direct contact with other team members, customers and suppliers.
Engineers must manage their own development, continuously learning through experience and staying abreast of technology changes. Learning will focus on methods, processes and systems applied to engineering functions, key engineering skills, practical application of theory, communications and building a knowledge of Caterpillar’s products, suppliers and customers.
Professionals within the program must be willing to travel and relocate domestically.

Currently attending a 4-year accredited university/college or have completed a minimum Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering with graduation dates between Dec 2016 - Aug 2018
Minimum cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.0/4.0 (no rounding) at current institution
Previous technical internship, co-op, or research/relevant experience
Familiar with or desire to learn about electric power conversion, electric drive, and/or power electronics
Involvement in Mini Baja, Formula, Quarter scale tractor, etc. competition teams in college
