Caterpillar Inc. seeks Control Systems Senior Engineer at its facility located at 2427 E Engine Drive, Chillicothe, IL 61523.

Develop electromechanical control systems using quantitative methods to solve problems for internal and external caterpillar customers through integrating mechanical and electronic components and systems through control algorithm implementation and optimization using data from sensors, on-board models, and product analytics. Direct and participate in the design and development of new electromechanical control systems product concepts and complex engineering projects for release to production to ensure products provide superior performance, durability, quality, digital connectivity, and serviceability. Generate and process large amounts of data from sensors, on-board models, and control algorithms in real-time creating real-world machine usage information. Conceive and provide practical control system product design applications using complex technical principles. Prepare concept, design, development, and feasibility studies of complex integrated control system engineering projects. Delegate portions of the project to other engineers and leads and coordinate the design, analysis, and computer simulation efforts. Prepare development plans and be responsible for meeting deadlines. Act as the development team leader by interacting with plant locations and various engineering departments. Conduct technical evaluations of major systems on competitive products. Coordinate product tests with prove design and prototype build up and test areas. Provide guidance to other engineers responsible for portions of the product project to ensure development schedules are met. Evaluate, define, and resolve design and manufacturing problems. Travel to foreign and domestic plants, dealerships, and customer job sites to solve design problems or to field test locations to evaluate a product improvement. Use technical expertise and product knowledge to play the leadership role in the problem resolution process when interfacing with test and evaluation, service, plant personnel, suppliers, and consultants. Work with manufacturability teams resolving problems with manufacturing and statistical process controls. Keep abreast of emerging technologies such as MATLAB/Simulink, co-simulation, neural networks, adaptive control, and self-learning machines.

REQS: This position requires a master’s degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Two (2) years of experience as an Electrical Engineer, Electrical Controls Engineer, or related occupation. Alternatively, the employer will accept a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree, or foreign equivalent, in Electrical Engineering or a related field. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with: (1) Development controls for electrical machines for motors/generators such as multiple motor types including induction, permanent magnet, brushless dc, switched reluctance, and power converters; (2) Simulation of power electronics and electrical machine such as design, analysis, optimization, and post-processing simulation with different software tools including Simulink, PsPice, and PSIM; and (3) Experience in the lab testing electric circuit and power electronics such as design, assembly, test, and troubleshoot circuit functions and validating its performance.

Telecommuting: 25% per week (Hybrid). Travel: 10% domestic and international travel required.
