Weichert Insurance Agency is hiring a VP, Controller in Morris Plains, NJ. The Controller manages the month-end closing, financial controls and reporting for Weichert Insurance Agency ("WIA") and the Weichert Title Group ("WTG"). The position is responsible for creating, identifying, analyzing, and monitoring the financial budget and business processes to support the strategic growth of both business divisions . The position's primary responsibilities focus on the execution and assessment of current practices and strategic analysis of business driving metrics. In addition, the position analyzes cost/benefit of new initiatives, and assesses/reports on the financial impact of such.

Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manages and/or prepares all accounting functions. Ensures accuracy and completeness of all accounting records. Prepares and/or reviews all balance sheet reconciliations. Ensures all sub-systems reconcile to the General Ledger.

  • Oversees the Accounting teams. Responsible for developing, coaching, and mentoring department staff, measuring performance of staff, and addressing issues immediately. Works with the team to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitors/advises on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff.

  • In conjunction with the President, responsible for the development and ongoing review and analysis of the financial budgets. Monitors key performance indicators of such and provides strategic analysis to optimize the business' revenue and net income.

  • WIA: Performs in-depth analysis of market share by Account Executive, office, RVP, and other comparators. Collaborates with sales management in developing a plan to maximize call volume, as well as contacts, quotes, and rates. Analyzes data and reports findings and recommendations accordingly.

  • WIA: Analyzes the Agency's new business and customer services best practices. Designs and implements programs to ensure consistent execution of practices. Tracks and communicates results.

  • WIA: Manages the Quality Assurance and Invoicing teams to ensure that new and renewal income is recognized and reported in an accurate and timely manner.

  • WTG: Responsible for the oversight and maintenance of the WTG Escrow accounts, and ensuring all accounts reconcile based on monthly analysis and periods are timely closed.

  • Conducts strategic analyses of new and renewal business driving metrics. Maintains an in-depth understanding of sales lead sources and retention procedures and practices.

  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of scheduled reports. Works with department leaders in the creation of action plans to maximize results; tracks and communicates these results to senior management.

  • Works directly with key stakeholders in sales, service, IT, corporate accounting and other necessary departments to deliver accurate and timely reporting on a regular basis.

  • Assists the Corporate Controller in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting and tax packages.

  • Runs and/or delegates the running of a variety of daily and ad hoc reports as assigned.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field required

  • A minimum of seven (7) years of relevant accounting experience at the level of accounting manager or higher

  • Title Insurance industry or Insurance Brokerage experience is a plus

  • Previous management experience required

  • Previous experience with user-based accounting, financial systems and database experience preferred

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of relevant analytical business experience
